CHAPTER 8 – The Woman Who Never Died

The courtroom fell into absolute silence.
Every eye was fixed on the woman in white.
Sophia couldn't breathe.
"My... mother?"
The woman smiled gently.
"I've waited twenty-seven years to hear you call me that."
Tears filled Sophia's eyes.
"This isn't possible."
"I buried you."
"You buried an empty coffin," Evelyn replied softly.
"The funeral was staged."
Victor Ashford lowered his head.
"You were supposed to stay hidden forever."
Evelyn looked at him.
"I stayed hidden because I had to."
"Not because I was afraid."
She slowly walked toward Sophia.
"I watched every birthday."
"Every graduation."
"Every heartbreak."
"I wanted to run to you..."
"But if I had..."
"You would have been killed before your eighteenth birthday."
Sophia stepped backward.
"So... everyone lied to me?"
Evelyn nodded sadly.
"To keep you alive."
Ethan suddenly burst into laughter.
"You still don't understand!"
Everyone turned toward him.
His hands were cuffed.
Yet he looked happier than ever.
"You've all been fighting over Project Phoenix..."
"...but none of you owns it."
Victor frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
Ethan smiled.
"Because Project Phoenix died six months ago."
Emily's laptop suddenly began flashing.
WARNING.
GLOBAL TRANSFER COMPLETED.
Every encrypted account...
Every hidden trust...
Every secret investment...
Had been emptied.
Billions of dollars disappeared in seconds.
Victor rushed toward the screen.
"No..."
"No!"
Emily stared in horror.
"Someone transferred everything."
"To whom?"
The answer slowly appeared.
Recipient: AURORA FOUNDATION
No one recognized the name.
Except Evelyn.
Her face turned pale.
"It can't be..."
Sophia looked at her.
"What is Aurora Foundation?"
Evelyn whispered,
"The organization that created Project Phoenix."
Victor slowly dropped to his knees.
For the first time in his life...
He looked defeated.
"We were only one branch..."
He muttered.
"There was always someone above us."
Then every phone in the courtroom vibrated at the exact same moment.
A live broadcast automatically opened.
A woman wearing a silver mask appeared on every screen across the world.
Her voice was calm.
"My name is Aurora."
"For one hundred years..."
"You believed billionaires ruled the world."
She smiled.
"They never did."
"We chose every president."
"Every banking crisis."
"Every corporate empire."
"Every war that made someone rich."
The room stood frozen.
Aurora looked directly into the camera.
"And today..."
"Project Phoenix has officially ended."
"But a new era begins."
She paused.
"There is only one person qualified to lead it."
The screen displayed a facial scan.
Processing...
Identity Confirmed.
SUCCESSOR SELECTED.
Sophia Lawson.
Everyone turned toward Sophia.
She shook her head.
"I don't want this."
Aurora smiled.
"You've already accepted."
Sophia frowned.
"When?"
Aurora reached into view...
Holding the blue diamond engagement ring.
The very ring Ethan had used to propose.
"The moment you touched this ring..."
"You activated the final inheritance protocol."
The courtroom went silent.
Ethan's proposal...
Emily's return...
Rose's secrets...
Victor's arrival...
Even the shooting...
Everything had been orchestrated to bring Sophia to this exact moment.
Aurora spoke one final sentence before the screen went black.
"Welcome home, Sophia."
Then...
Every light in the courthouse went out.
When the emergency lights returned five seconds later...
Aurora had vanished.
The blue diamond ring...
Was gone.
And so was...
May you like
Sophia Lawson.
