CHAPTER 5 – The Enemy Wearing His Brother's Face

No one breathed.

Lily's tiny finger remained pointed toward the far end of the boardroom.

Every head slowly turned.

The smiling executive immediately wiped the grin from his face.

"Is something wrong?" he asked calmly.

Daniel narrowed his eyes.

It was Ethan Brooks.

A senior financial strategist.

He had worked at Carter Global for almost two years.

Quiet.

Brilliant.

Invisible.

The kind of employee no one ever questioned.

Richard suddenly interrupted.

"Leave him alone."

That single sentence made Daniel suspicious.

His father had never defended an employee before.

Daniel walked straight toward Ethan.

"Who are you?"

Ethan smiled.

"Your employee."

"No."

Daniel stopped only inches away.

"I asked who you really are."

For several long seconds...

Ethan said nothing.

Then he slowly reached into his jacket pocket.

Security immediately drew their weapons.

"Hands where I can see them!"

Instead...

Ethan placed an old silver necklace on the conference table.

Evelyn gasped.

Her legs nearly gave out.

"I made that..."

The necklace opened with a soft click.

Inside were two tiny baby photographs.

One of Daniel.

One of another infant.

Exactly the same face.

Only one small birthmark beneath the left ear was different.

Evelyn burst into tears.

"My boys..."

Daniel looked at Ethan with trembling eyes.

"Michael?"

The man closed the necklace.

"My name is Michael Walker."

Silence.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Then, to everyone's shock...

Michael stepped past Daniel...

And hugged Evelyn.

For twenty-three years, a mother held the son she thought she would never see again.

Even the board members wiped away tears.

But the moment lasted only seconds.

Michael slowly pulled away.

"I didn't come home because I missed this family."

His eyes turned cold.

"I came here to destroy it."

Daniel frowned.

"What are you talking about?"

Michael pulled a flash drive from his pocket.

"I've spent ten years gathering evidence."

"Every illegal deal."

"Every fake contract."

"Every bribed politician."

"Every offshore account."

He looked directly at Richard.

"You taught me one thing without ever meeting me."

"The biggest criminals always wear expensive suits."

Richard's face turned ghostly white.

"You have no proof."

Michael smiled.

"Oh..."

"I have much more than proof."

He connected the flash drive to the boardroom screen.

Thousands of confidential files appeared.

Bank transfers.

Secret recordings.

Forged signatures.

Bribes worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

The room erupted into chaos.

Board members shouted.

Lawyers grabbed documents.

Executives rushed to call authorities.

Richard realized everything was over.

Slowly...

He reached into the inside pocket of his suit.

Daniel noticed first.

"Dad..."

"What are you doing?"

Richard's trembling hand emerged...

Holding a handgun.

He pointed it directly at Michael.

"If I lose everything..."

"...then neither of my sons leaves this room alive."

Lily screamed.

Evelyn stepped in front of her children without hesitation.

And just as Richard pulled the trigger...

May you like

A deafening gunshot echoed through the boardroom.
