CHAPTER 4 – “THE SECRET MESSAGE”

Ryan’s best man, Caleb, stepped forward with shaking hands.

Ryan’s voice cracked.

“Caleb… what are you doing?”

Caleb looked at Emily.

“I’m sorry. I should’ve told you earlier.”

Emily’s heart tightened.

“Told me what?”

Caleb unlocked the phone and showed the screen to Margaret.

There was a group chat.

Ryan and his friends.

Dozens of messages.

Laughing about the fountain.

Mocking Emily’s dress.

Calling her “too perfect” and saying she needed to be “brought down a little.”

But one message made everyone stop breathing.

Ryan had written:

“Once the wedding is done, the trust money becomes easier to access. Just keep her embarrassed enough so she won’t fight me later.”

Emily felt the world tilt beneath her feet.

Margaret’s eyes turned ice cold.

Ryan shouted,

“That’s private! You stole my phone!”

Caleb looked ashamed.

“You dropped it when your investor called.”

Ryan tried to grab it, but security stopped him again.

Emily stared at Ryan.

“So this wasn’t just about a prank.”

Ryan’s silence answered for him.

His mother tried to speak, but Margaret raised one hand.

“Not another word.”

Then Margaret faced the crowd.

“This wedding is over.”

Gasps spread across the garden.

Ryan panicked.

“No! You can’t just say that!”

Emily took one step forward.

“She doesn’t have to.”

Ryan looked at her.

Emily lifted her chin.

“I’m saying it.”

Then she turned to the photographer.

“Send me every photo. Every video. Especially the one before he pushed me.”

The photographer nodded.

Ryan’s face twisted with desperation.

“Emily, please. Think about what people will say.”

Emily gave a small, painful smile.

“They already saw everything.”

Then Margaret made another call.

“Bring the car around. And have the legal team meet us tonight.”

Ryan’s knees nearly buckled.

“Legal team?”

Margaret picked up Emily’s ring from the table and placed it in Emily’s palm.

“My dear, some rings are not symbols of love. They are warnings.”

Emily looked at the ring one last time.

Then she walked to the fountain.

Everyone watched.

Slowly, she dropped the ring into the water.

It sank to the bottom beside her ruined bouquet.

Ryan whispered,

“You’ll regret this.”

Emily turned back.

“No, Ryan.”

Her voice was calm.

“You will.”

And just as she walked away with Margaret…

Every phone in the garden buzzed at once.

The video had already gone public.

But not the version Ryan wanted.

This one began with him planning everything.

And ended with Emily walking away.

Within minutes, the whole internet knew the truth.
