CHAPTER 4 — The Bride Who Was Never Innocent

Ethan didn’t call the police first.

He called the one person his father had always feared.

Margaret Hale — a retired federal investigator and Emily’s godmother.

By midnight, Margaret arrived with a black folder, two bodyguards, and a face that looked like she had been waiting five years for this moment.

She placed the folder on Emily’s kitchen table.

Inside were bank transfers.

Fake medical forms.

Forged divorce papers.

And one photograph that made Ethan’s blood run cold.

Victoria standing beside Daniel.

At a private family estate.

Two years before Ethan ever met her.

“She was planted in your life,” Margaret said quietly.

Ethan’s voice dropped.

“By who?”

Margaret looked at him.

“Your father.”

The room went silent.

Ethan stepped back as if he had been hit.

His father hadn’t just separated him from Emily.

He had replaced Emily with Victoria.

A woman tied to Daniel.

A woman sent to control Ethan’s company shares, his inheritance, and his future children.

The wedding wasn’t love.

It was a takeover.

The next morning, Ethan walked into his father’s mansion with Lily beside him and Emily watching from Margaret’s secured car outside.

Victoria was already there, wearing the same calm smile.

His father sat near the fireplace like a king waiting for a servant.

“You should have stayed at the airport,” his father said.

Ethan placed the forged divorce papers on the table.

Then the bank records.

Then the photograph of Victoria and Daniel.

Victoria’s smile vanished.

His father didn’t move.

“You were weak,” the old man said coldly. “That woman would have ruined your future.”

Ethan looked at him with tears in his eyes.

“No. You ruined my family.”

Then Lily stepped forward.

Small.

Shaking.

But brave.

She placed the faded photo of Ethan and Emily on the table.

“You stole my daddy.”

For the first time, Ethan’s father looked afraid.

Because behind Lily, Margaret had already opened the mansion doors.

Two federal agents walked in.

And Victoria finally screamed—not out of fear for Ethan…

but because Daniel had just been found alive.

And he was ready to testify.
