CHAPTER 7 – The Inside Traitor Was Standing Beside Emma… And The Truth Destroyed Her Forever

Emma stared at the photograph.
Her hands began to shake uncontrollably.
"No..."
"It can't be."
The name printed beneath the picture was one she trusted with her life.
Detective Ryan Hayes.
The same detective who had comforted her after Adrian's arrest.
The same man who had promised to protect her.
The same man who had driven her to the police station...
Helped recover evidence...
And stayed by her side when everyone else walked away.
Emma looked at her father.
"There has to be a mistake."
Her father slowly shook his head.
"I prayed there was."
"But Ryan has been feeding information to the organization for nearly eight years."
Emma refused to believe it.
"He saved my life!"
Her grandmother closed her eyes.
"No, Emma."
"He saved you only when they wanted you alive."
"The entire time..."
"...he was leading them straight to you."
Before Emma could process the truth...
The cabin door burst open.
Ryan rushed inside, breathing heavily.
"Emma!"
"I've been looking everywhere for you!"
He looked exhausted.
Sweaty.
Concerned.
Exactly like a man desperate to save someone he loved.
Emma instinctively stepped toward him.
Then she noticed something.
His watch.
A black watch engraved with a silver phoenix.
Exactly the same symbol printed on the confidential files.
Ryan saw her staring.
His expression changed.
For the first time...
He stopped pretending.
"So..."
"You finally know."
The warmth disappeared from his face.
His smile became cold.
"I was wondering how long it would take."
Emma's voice cracked.
"Why?"
Ryan laughed softly.
"Because trust is the easiest weapon."
"You never suspect the person wiping away your tears."
Her father reached for his pistol.
Ryan wasn't afraid.
Instead...
He slowly applauded.
"Impressive."
"You stayed hidden for twenty-five years."
"But the game is over."
He pressed a button hidden beneath his watch.
Three red lights began flashing outside the cabin.
Emma looked through the window.
Her blood ran cold.
More than twenty black SUVs surrounded the cabin.
Armed men poured into the forest from every direction.
Dozens.
Maybe hundreds.
Ryan smiled.
"I didn't come alone."
Bullets shattered every window.
Glass exploded across the floor.
Emma's father pulled her behind a stone fireplace.
"Stay down!"
The gunfire became deafening.
Smoke filled the room.
Her grandmother suddenly grabbed Emma's hand.
"There’s another way out."
She pointed toward a trapdoor beneath an old rug.
Emma and her father forced it open.
A narrow tunnel stretched beneath the cabin.
As they climbed inside, Ryan shouted from above.
"You can run!"
"But there's nowhere left to hide!"
The cabin erupted into flames.
The roof collapsed just seconds after they escaped underground.
After crawling through the tunnel for nearly fifteen minutes, they emerged beside an abandoned riverbank.
Emma turned back.
The cabin was completely engulfed in fire.
Everything they owned...
Every file...
Every map...
Had been destroyed.
Or so Ryan believed.
Her father smiled for the first time in years.
"He burned the decoy."
Emma frowned.
"What?"
Her father reached inside his jacket.
He pulled out a tiny encrypted flash drive no larger than a coin.
"This..."
"...contains the real evidence."
Emma sighed with relief.
Until her father connected it to a small laptop hidden inside his backpack.
The screen flickered.
Thousands of classified files appeared.
Bank records.
Government contracts.
Secret communications.
Then...
One video file automatically opened.
The timestamp read:
Recorded Yesterday.
Emma frowned.
"Yesterday?"
She pressed PLAY.
The video showed a luxurious office.
A familiar woman walked into the room.
Elegant.
Confident.
Perfectly dressed.
Emma stopped breathing.
It was her mother.
She hugged Ryan.
Then smiled.
"You've done well."
"Emma trusts you completely."
Ryan nodded.
"She'll lead us to the flash drive soon."
Emma felt her knees give out.
Her own mother...
Had betrayed her.
But the final seconds of the recording revealed something even worse.
A man stepped out of the shadows.
His face remained hidden.
Everyone in the room stood the moment he appeared.
Even Ryan lowered his head.
The mysterious man spoke only one sentence.
"Prepare the helicopter... tonight we eliminate the entire Blackwell bloodline."
The screen went black.
Emma looked at her father.
He whispered four words that changed everything.
"That's not your mother."
Emma stared at him in shock.
"What do you mean?"
His face turned pale.
May you like
"The woman in that video..."
"...has been impersonating your mother for the last ten years."
