CHAPTER 3 — The Betrayal Was Written in Blood

Daniel Reeves froze.
For the first time in fifteen years, the perfect smile slipped from his face.
Michael stepped toward him, his voice shaking.
“You did this to my daughter?”
Daniel laughed softly, but his eyes were full of panic.
“You abandoned her, Michael. I only gave the world a reason to hate you.”
Before police could grab him, Daniel shoved a nurse into the hallway and ran.
But the old janitor moved first.
With one hard swing of his mop handle, he knocked Daniel to the floor.
The flash drive spilled from Daniel’s pocket.
On it were stolen company files, fake medical records, and one hidden folder labeled:
LILY CARTER — INSURANCE TRANSFER
Michael’s stomach dropped.
Daniel hadn’t only tried to destroy his company.
He had tried to kill Lily for a billion-dollar life insurance payout connected to Michael’s corporation.
Then Lily’s doctor rushed out.
“She’s waking up.”
Michael ran into the room, tears streaming down his face.
Lily opened her eyes and whispered,
“Daddy… I saw him.”
Michael held her hand.
“Who, sweetheart?”
Lily slowly pointed toward the glass window.
Everyone turned.
Daniel was gone.
Only a bloody handprint remained on the door.

SHE WAS NEVER YOUR DAUGHTER.
