CHAPTER 2 — "The Secret He Buried Was Walking Toward Him."

The airport fell strangely silent.
The businessman stared at the faded photograph as though it were a ghost.
His hands began to shake.
"No..." he whispered.
"Where did you get this?"
The little girl smiled through her tears.
"Mommy carried it every day."
The words hit him harder than any punch.
His former girlfriend, Emily, had disappeared years earlier after he abandoned her to chase wealth, status, and a powerful marriage. He had convinced himself she had moved on—or worse, that she hadn't survived the difficult years that followed.
He never imagined she had kept the photo.
Or that she had kept his daughter.
The crowd began whispering.
"Does he really know her?"
"Is that actually his child?"
Someone quietly started recording.
The businessman felt panic rising in his chest. One viral video could destroy everything he had spent a decade building.
He knelt in front of the little girl.
"Where's your mother?"
The girl's expression suddenly changed.
She handed him a small folded envelope.
"Mommy said... if I found you... I should only give you this after you looked into my eyes."
His fingers trembled as he opened it.
Inside wasn't a plea for money.
It wasn't a birth certificate.
It wasn't a court document.
It was a single handwritten sentence.
"She doesn't need your last name anymore... but she deserves to know why her father chose money over her life."
His breathing stopped.
Then another piece of paper slipped from the envelope.
A hospital report.
The little girl had only weeks left to live.
And Emily...
Had died three days earlier, leaving one final wish:
May you like
"Let her meet her father... even if he doesn't deserve her."
The businessman collapsed to his knees in the middle of the terminal, finally realizing the reunion he had feared for ten years had come far too late. The greatest deal he had ever made had cost him the only family he could never buy back.
