CHAPTER 3 — The FiancĂ©e Saw Everything

Before he could stand, a cold voice cut through the silence.

“Daniel
 who is this child?”

His fiancĂ©e, Vanessa, stood behind him in a white designer coat, her diamond ring glittering under the airport lights. Beside her were his future in-laws—the powerful family who had promised him the CEO chair after the wedding.

Daniel froze.

The little girl looked at Vanessa, then back at him.

“Daddy
is she the reason you never came home?”

The crowd gasped.

Vanessa’s face twisted with humiliation.

Daniel reached for the little girl, but she stepped back.

“My name is Lily,” she whispered. “Mommy said you might pretend not to know me.”

Those words destroyed him.

Vanessa grabbed the hospital report from his hand. Her eyes moved across the page, and her expression changed from anger
 to disgust.

“You lied to me,” she said.

Daniel shook his head. “I can explain.”

“No,” Vanessa snapped. “You can’t.”

Then Lily’s knees suddenly buckled.

Daniel caught her just before she hit the floor.

For the first time in ten years, he wasn’t thinking about money, power, or reputation.

He was only thinking one thing:

Please don’t let my daughter die in my arms.
