CHAPTER 7 — The Miracle Lily Never Expected

The operating room doors closed.

For the next nine hours, Daniel sat alone in the hallway, still wearing the same suit from the airport. Reporters crowded outside the hospital, broadcasting every new development.

"CEO Candidate's Secret Daughter Fights for Her Life."

"Billion-Dollar Wedding Canceled After Airport Reunion."

"Hidden Recording Exposes Powerful Family."

Daniel ignored every headline.

None of it mattered anymore.

Only Lily.

Finally, the surgeon walked out.

Daniel jumped to his feet.

"Doctor?"

The surgeon slowly removed his mask.

"The transplant was successful."

Daniel broke down.

For the first time in years, he cried without shame.

Hours later, Lily slowly opened her eyes.

The first thing she saw was Daniel asleep beside her hospital bed, still holding her tiny hand.

She smiled.

"Daddy..."

Daniel woke instantly.

"Hey, princess."

She giggled weakly.

"You really stayed."

"I promised."

Lily reached under her pillow and handed him a tiny folded paper.

"I made this before surgery... in case I didn't wake up."

Daniel unfolded it with trembling hands.

It was a childish drawing.

Three stick figures stood together beneath a bright yellow sun.

One was labeled Mommy.

One was labeled Me.

The last one simply read...

Daddy.

Above them, in crooked handwriting, Lily had written:

"Families always find each other... even if they're late."

Daniel couldn't stop crying.

Just then, another visitor entered the room.

It was the hospital lawyer.

"There was one final instruction in Emily's will."

He handed Daniel a sealed envelope.

Inside was the deed to a small countryside house.

On the back, Emily had written only one sentence.

"This was supposed to be our forever home."

May you like

Daniel realized she had never stopped believing he would come back.

Even after everything.
