CHAPTER 3 – THE HUSBAND WHO BEGGED TOO LATE

Daniel dropped to his knees in the middle of the bloodstained kitchen.

“Emily… please,” he whispered. “Tell them it was a misunderstanding.”

Emily stared at the man who had once kissed her forehead every morning, the man who had held her hand at charity dinners, the man everyone called “perfect.”

Now he was shaking like a coward.

Officer Harris stepped forward and placed handcuffs around Daniel’s wrists.

“You have the right to remain silent.”

Daniel suddenly screamed.

“No! She set me up! She planned this!”

Emily’s lawyer, Richard, opened another file on his phone.

“Actually, Daniel, we found more than tonight’s recording.”

Daniel went pale.

Richard continued.

“The offshore accounts. The forged signatures. The fake medical reports claiming Emily was unstable. And the emails between you and your mistress discussing how to ‘make her disappear.’”

Emily’s breath caught.

Mistress.

She already suspected it.

But hearing it out loud still cut deep.

Then Richard played one voice message.

A woman’s voice filled the kitchen.

“Once Emily is gone, the money is ours. Don’t mess this up, Daniel.”

Emily slowly turned to him.

“Who is she?”

Daniel looked down.

For the first time, he had no lie ready.

But before anyone could speak, another officer entered from outside.

“We found someone hiding in the guest house.”

Emily froze.

Moments later, a glamorous woman in a red coat was dragged into the kitchen.

It was Vanessa.

Emily’s best friend.

The woman who had helped her choose her wedding dress.

The woman who had cried at her baby shower.

The woman who had hugged her at every anniversary party.

Vanessa lifted her chin and smiled coldly.

“You always had everything, Emily. I just wanted my turn.”

Emily didn’t cry.

She simply stepped closer and whispered,

“You didn’t want my life.”

Her eyes burned with quiet fury.

May you like

“You wanted my grave.”

And for the first time that night, Vanessa stopped smiling.
