CHAPTER 4 – THE DNA REPORT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The police led Daniel and Vanessa toward the front door.

Reporters were already gathering outside the mansion.

Camera flashes lit up the night like lightning.

Daniel lowered his head, hoping no one would recognize him.

Then Emily spoke.

"Wait."

Everyone stopped.

Even the officers turned around.

"I have one more question."

She looked directly at Vanessa.

"How long?"

Vanessa smirked.

"Almost four years."

Emily's heart skipped.

Four years...

That meant the affair had started less than a year after the wedding.

Every anniversary...

Every family vacation...

Every birthday celebration...

They had smiled beside her while secretly laughing behind her back.

Daniel finally looked up.

"I'm sorry."

Emily laughed bitterly.

"Sorry?"

"You tried to murder me."

"You stole my company."

"You forged my medical records."

"And now you think one word fixes everything?"

Daniel opened his mouth—

But Richard interrupted.

"I'm afraid that's not even the worst part."

He handed Emily a sealed envelope.

"I was waiting until you were safe."

Emily slowly opened it.

Inside was a confidential DNA report.

Her hands began to tremble.

"What is this?"

Richard swallowed hard.

"Three months ago, your father hired a private investigator."

"He had doubts about something Daniel had been hiding."

Emily unfolded the final page.

The room became completely silent.

Her eyes locked on a single sentence.

PATERNITY TEST RESULT

Probability of biological father...

0.00%.

Emily frowned.

"This can't be right..."

Richard nodded sadly.

"It means Daniel isn't the biological father..."

"...of your six-year-old son."

The words hit like an explosion.

Daniel's face drained of every drop of color.

Vanessa suddenly screamed,

"NO! THAT REPORT IS FAKE!"

But no one listened.

Emily looked at Daniel with tears filling her eyes.

"If you're not his father..."

"...then who is?"

Before Daniel could answer...

The mansion door slowly opened.

An elderly man stepped inside.

His expensive suit was covered with rain.

He looked at Emily...

Then at the little boy sleeping upstairs.

Finally, he whispered the words that froze everyone in the room.

"I think..."

"...that child is my grandson."

May you like

And in his trembling hand...

...was another DNA report.
