Chapter 3 - THE WAKE OF THE GLASS

The champagne had not even dried on the marble floor of the Plaza ballroom before Liam Hayes’s carefully curated universe began to fracture.
By midnight, the dropped glass was no longer a clumsy accident; it was a symbol. The internet had already named the moment The Shattering. Within two hours of Olivia Carter walking out that side exit, hashtags like #TheHayesUnraveling and #OliviaRevenge trended globally. TMZ published a side-by-side comparison of Liam’s 50-million-dollar tech acquisition announcement next to a blown-up photo of Olivia’s white silk dress and the undeniable silhouette of pregnancy.
Liam sat in the back of his matte-black Maybach, staring at his phone screen as the notification count hit numbers his servers usually reserved for product launches.
"Take that down," Khloe snapped, her voice trembling as she frantically refreshed her own Instagram. Her comment section was a war zone. Thousands of strangers were typing words she had never expected to be associated with: homewrecker, discarded, second choice. "Liam, tell your PR team to issue a statement. Say we separated long before. Say she’s trying to trap you!"
Liam didn't look up. The reflection of the phone light illuminated the sharp, cold angles of a man who was realizing, for the first time in his life, that his money couldn't buy back a timeline.
"She wasn't trying to trap anyone, Khloe," Liam said, his voice terrifyingly quiet. "When I threw her out, she didn't ask for a dime of future equity. She took her severance and walked out the door without looking back."
"Because she was plotting this!" Khloe shrieked, slamming her designer clutch against the leather seat. "She waited until the exact moment you launched your European expansion. She’s destroying you!"

Liam turned his head slowly, his eyes locking onto the young model. For six months, he had looked at Khloe and seen a trophy, a shiny ornament that proved he had conquered Wall Street and Silicon Valley. Right now, sitting in the dark car, she just looked exhausting.
"No, Khloe," Liam whispered. "She wasn't plotting anything. She just didn't care about us anymore."
