Chapter 6 - A DEADLY CONFRONTATION"Get away from her!" Adrián roared, sprinting down the hallway.

Mercer turned sharply, his eyes cold and calculated behind rimmed glasses. Instead of fleeing, Mercer whipped out a heavy silenced pistol from beneath his coat and pointed it directly at Adrián’s chest.
"Back off, Salgado," Mercer said in a low, dangerous voice. "Your wife has already seen too much. If she talks to the federal prosecutor tomorrow, my life is over. I'm not going to spend thirty years in a federal penitentiary because your idiot brother couldn't handle a simple drop."
"She’s pregnant, you bastard!" Adrián screamed, stepping slowly forward, trying to draw Mercer’s attention away from the door.
"I don't care!" Mercer snarled.
Inside the room, Elisa heard the commotion and pressed the emergency nurse call button repeatedly.
Mercer raised the gun to shoot Adrián, but before he could pull the trigger, Officer Morales burst out of the emergency stairwell, her weapon drawn.
"Police! Drop the gun!" Morales yelled.
Mercer panicked and fired two wild shots down the hall. One bullet shattered the glass of the vending machine; the other ricocheted off the tiled wall.
Adrián didn't hesitate. He tackled Mercer at full speed, slamming the executive into the heavy metal supply cart. The gun flew out of Mercer’s hand and skittered across the wet floor.
The two men tumbled onto the ground, wrestling fiercely. Mercer drove his elbow into Adrián’s ribs, gasping for breath as he reached into his pocket for the syringe filled with lethal potassium chloride.
"Die, you idiot!" Mercer screamed, attempting to plunge the needle into Adrián’s neck.
Adrián caught Mercer’s wrist inches from his skin. Using every ounce of strength in his body, he twisted Mercer’s arm backward until a sharp pop echoed in the hallway.
Mercer shrieked in pain, dropping the syringe. Officer Morales leaped in, pressing her knee into Mercer’s neck and pinning him to the floor, snapping handcuffs over his wrists.
"It's over, Mercer!" Morales panted, securing the suspect.

Adrián pushed himself off the floor, bruised and breathless, and slammed open the door to Elisa’s room. She was sitting in the corner, clutching her stomach in terror.
"Elisa!" he cried, pulling her into his arms. "It's over! He's caught! It's over!"
