CHAPTER 3 — "THE DNA RESULT THAT NO ONE EXPECTED"

The cathedral became so quiet that even the cameras stopped clicking.
Damien slowly opened the envelope.
Every eye followed his hands.
Victoria gripped the pew so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
Richard tried to speak.
"You can't trust—"
"Enough."
Damien unfolded the document.
"The DNA results are authentic."
He looked at the frightened little boy first.
Then at Vanessa.
Finally...
He spoke.
"I am not his biological father."
A collective gasp swept through the cathedral.
Richard staggered backward.
His face lost all color.
Vanessa covered her mouth.
"No..."
"That's impossible."
Damien calmly handed the report to the priest, then to several reporters.
Every laboratory seal was genuine.
The results were undeniable.
Zero probability of paternity.
Richard suddenly turned to leave.
"You aren't going anywhere," Damien said.
At that exact moment, two detectives entered the cathedral.
One approached Richard.
"Richard Hayes, you're under arrest for fraud, conspiracy, extortion, and evidence fabrication."
The guests watched in disbelief as handcuffs clicked around his wrists.
Richard looked toward Victoria.
"You promised you'd protect me!"
The entire cathedral froze.
Victoria's secret was no longer a rumor.
It was public.
She had financed the scheme.
She had tried to destroy her own son's wedding.
But the biggest surprise was still waiting.
One detective turned to Vanessa.
"We also discovered who the child's biological father is."
The detective pointed directly at the crowd.
Every guest turned instinctively.
A man tried to slip quietly toward the exit.
Damien's cousin.
Nathan Blackwood.
The detective continued,
"DNA collected from Mr. Nathan Blackwood during an unrelated corporate investigation confirmed a 99.999% match."
Vanessa stared at Nathan in shock.
"You..."
Nathan's knees gave way.
He collapsed to the floor.
"It was one mistake..."
"It happened years ago..."
Victoria closed her eyes.
She had known all along.
To protect her nephew—and preserve the family's reputation—she had sacrificed Emily, Vanessa, two innocent children, and even her own son.
Silence filled the cathedral.
Then Damien did something no one expected.
He walked to the little boy.
Lifted him gently into his arms.
"You didn't choose the family you were born into."
He turned to Vanessa.
"And neither did you."
Emily stepped beside him.
She smiled warmly at the frightened child.
Lily reached out her tiny hand.
"Do you want to stand with me?"
The little boy nodded.
Holding hands, the two children walked together toward the altar.
Many guests began wiping away tears.
Even reporters lowered their cameras for a moment.
The priest smiled.
"Shall we begin again?"
Damien looked into Emily's eyes.
"This time..."
"No lies."
"No interruptions."
"Only the family we choose."
Emily whispered,
"I do."
"So do I."
Applause erupted throughout the cathedral.
But the final surprise came months later.
When Damien legally adopted Lily, he also quietly established a foundation in the little boy's name—funding legal aid for single parents who had been manipulated or abandoned.
The headlines the next morning weren't about a billionaire's wedding.
They were about something far rarer.
