CHAPTER 8 — THE UNDERGROUND VAULT

Police surrounded the abandoned factory before sunrise.

The building had been closed for nearly twenty years.

But Lily wasn't inside.

She had disappeared again.

Damien searched every room until he noticed something strange.

Tiny muddy footprints.

Too small to belong to an adult.

They stopped at a rusted steel floor.

Lily had scratched one word into the dust.

DOWN.

Workers cut open the floor.

Beneath it...

A massive underground bunker appeared.

Inside were shelves filled with sealed boxes, confidential files, gold bars, and decades of Blackwood family records.

But one object caught everyone's attention.

An old videotape labeled:

"Play only if the family betrays the rightful heir."

Damien inserted the tape into an ancient player.

His late father appeared on the screen.

Older.

Weaker.

But determined.

"If you're watching this..."

"It means someone inside my family has tried to steal what never belonged to them."

He paused.

Then revealed the truth that shattered everything.

"Lily Carter is not my granddaughter."

Emily gasped.

Damien's heart stopped.

His father continued...

"She is my daughter."

Silence filled the bunker.

Emily dropped to the floor.

"No..."

"It can't be..."

The old man explained that years before, during a brief separation from his wife, he had secretly fallen in love with Emily's mother.

Emily had never known.

She had grown up believing another man was her father.

Which meant...

Lily was the youngest biological Blackwood alive.

And legally...

She inherited control of everything.

Just then...

A slow clap echoed through the bunker.

Someone had been listening.
