CHAPTER 7: THE FINAL LETTER EMILY NEVER WROTE

The helicopter landed on the private yacht just before sunrise.
The Mediterranean was calm.
Too calm.
Richard Ashcroft stood at the bow, hands folded behind his back, staring at the horizon as if he owned it.
Adrian approached cautiously.
"You promised me everything would be under control."
Richard didn't even turn around.
"I promised you power."
"You confused that with protection."
For the first time, Adrian realized something terrifying.
He had never been Richard's partner.
He had always been his pawn.
Back in New York...
Emily couldn't stop staring at Lily's DNA report.
It proved only one thing.
Someone had manipulated the truth.
But who?
And why?
Samuel entered carrying an old evidence box.
"I found something hidden inside the maternity clinic."
Inside was a worn leather journal.
On the first page was Emily's handwriting.
Except...
Emily had never seen it before.
"This isn't mine."
Samuel looked puzzled.
"The handwriting matches yours perfectly."
Emily flipped through the pages.
Every page described conversations she had never had.
Medical appointments she had never attended.
Letters she had never written.
The final page ended with one chilling sentence:
"If you're reading this, someone has stolen my life."
Emily's blood ran cold.
Samuel opened a hidden compartment inside the journal.
A tiny microSD card fell onto the table.
Ross inserted it into his laptop.
One video file appeared.
DELIVERY ROOM – CAMERA 3
The timestamp showed the night Lily was born.
Everyone watched in silence.
Emily lay unconscious after an emergency surgery.
A nurse carried the newborn baby across the room.
Then...
Another nurse entered.
She whispered,
"Richard wants the switch now."
The first nurse hesitated.
"But this baby's healthy."
The second nurse answered coldly,
"Not anymore."
The room froze.
Emily burst into tears.
"They switched my baby..."
Before anyone could speak...
The video ended.
The remaining footage had been erased.
Detective Ross immediately ordered every surviving nurse from the hospital to be located.
Within hours...
Only one was still alive.
Margaret Ellis.
Seventy-two years old.
Living alone in a remote coastal town.
Emily, Samuel, and Ross flew there immediately.
When Margaret opened the door...
She took one look at Lily.
And began crying.
"I prayed I'd never see her again."
Emily stepped forward.
"You know who she is?"
Margaret nodded.
"I held her the night she was born."
Emily's voice shook.
"Is she my daughter?"
Margaret looked at Lily with heartbreaking sadness.
"Yes."
"But..."
"There was another baby."
Everyone stopped breathing.
"A baby boy."
Samuel frowned.
"What happened to him?"
Margaret whispered,
"Richard took him himself."
At that exact moment...
Across the ocean...
Richard entered a massive underground vault beneath his estate.
Steel doors opened one after another.
Hidden laboratories.
Private security.
Rows of confidential files.
In the center stood a young man in his twenties.
Tall.
Confident.
Wearing an expensive tailored suit.
Richard smiled proudly.
"Everything is ready."
The young man nodded.
"Should I meet her?"
Richard looked toward a giant monitor displaying Emily and Lily.
"Not yet."
"Your sister isn't ready."
The young man smiled.
"So..."
"This has always been about family."
Richard answered,
"It has always been about inheritance."
The monitor zoomed in on Lily's face.
Richard whispered,
May you like
"The two children together unlock everything."
