Chapter 1 - The Blood Seal of BrotherhoodThe heavy silence inside the west parlor was broken only by the rhythmic tapping of March rain against the reinforced glass. Alessandro Moretti stood completely motionless, staring at the digital readout on Marco Rossi’s tablet.

Victor Romano.
The name didn’t just hurt; it tore through Alessandro’s chest like a jagged blade. Victor was not merely an officer or a loyal lieutenant in the Moretti syndicate. He was the boy who had taken a bullet in the shoulder for Alessandro during the Miami dock ambush ten years ago. They had bled together, built an empire together, and sworn an oath in front of Alessandro’s dying father.
“Are you absolute in this, Marco?” Alessandro’s voice was deceptively calm—a deadly, low murmur that sent chills through the room.
“The master log doesn’t lie, Boss,” Marco replied, his hand trembling slightly as he held the encrypted tablet. “The security feed for the hallway was bypassed using an internal override code at precisely 3:14 p.m. Only three people possess that bypass authority: you, myself, and Victor. Biometric sensors at the service door confirmed Victor’s physical presence inside the study for four minutes and twelve seconds.”
Alessandro slowly turned his gaze toward Maria and young Sophie. The six-year-old child was clutching her one-eyed rag doll, her small shoulders shivering despite the warm wool blanket wrapped around her.
“Marco,” Alessandro commanded softly. “Move Maria and Sophie to safehouse Alpha in upstate New York immediately. Double the guard count. If a single hair on that child’s head is harmed, I will tear down this entire city brick by brick.”
Maria squeezed her daughter tightly, tears brimming in her eyes. “Mr. Moretti… what is going to happen?”
“Justice, Maria,” Alessandro said, crouching down to meet Sophie’s innocent eyes once more. “And a debt that can never fully be repaid.”
Twenty minutes later, the main gates of the Long Island estate swung open. Victor Romano’s black armored sedan rolled smoothly up the winding driveway. Victor stepped out, adjusting his crisp Italian suit, entirely unaware that the trap had already been sprung. He walked into the estate holding a leather portfolio, expecting to join the 8:00 p.m. high-stakes meeting of the six syndicate families.
Instead, as he crossed the threshold of the grand foyer, six silenced barrels were aimed directly at his chest.
Marco stepped forward, disarming Victor before he could even register the threat.
“What the hell is the meaning of this?!” Victor demanded, his voice echoing off the marble walls. “Marco, have you lost your mind? The bosses will be here in ten minutes!”
From the shadows of the arched doorway, Alessandro emerged. His face was a mask of cold, unyielding stone.
“The bosses aren’t coming, Victor,” Alessandro said, his tone dripping with lethal precision. “Because the table they were supposed to sit at had five kilograms of military-grade C4 taped beneath it.”
Victor’s face drained of all color instantly. His eyes widened in sheer panic, his mouth opening and closing as if searching for oxygen.
“Alessandro… listen to me—”
“You set the timer for 8:00 p.m.,” Alessandro interrupted, stepping closer until he was inches from Victor’s face. “You knew I sat at the head of that desk. You knew I would be the first to vaporize. Why, Victor? Why sell fifteen years of brotherhood?”

Victor fell to his knees, not out of fear for his life, but under the weight of a crushing, horrifying realization. Tears burst from his eyes as he looked up at Alessandro.
“You don’t understand!” Victor choked out, his voice cracking with unbearable anguish. “I didn’t plant it to kill you, Alessandro! I planted it because they forced me to choose between you… and four innocent lives!”
