Chapter 5 - The Tuscan StrikeWhile bullets were flying at Pier 42 in New York, thousands of miles away, a elite tactical helicopter cut through the stormy night skies over the rolling hills of Tuscany, Italy.

Inside the aircraft, Team Beta—led by Alessandro’s most lethal operative, a former Italian Special Forces captain named Matteo—was preparing for a high-risk HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) jump.

“We have fifty-four minutes on the timer!” Matteo shouted over the deafening roar of the helicopter engines. “Thermal imaging has pinpointed the target: an abandoned wine refinery in the Chianti valley!”

Matteo checked his tactical HUD display. The thermal camera showed six heat signatures inside the stone basement—four small ones tied together, and two heavily armed guards standing near the perimeter.

“Jump in three… two… one… GO!”

Four black-clad operators leaped into the abyss, plunging through the rain clouds like dark angels. They opened their parachutes at the very last second, landing silently on the mossy roof of the ancient stone refinery.

Matteo attached a thermal breaching charge to the heavy iron roof hatch.

BANG!

The steel door blew inward. Matteo and his team dropped into the facility like phantoms, their night-vision goggles illuminating the dim corridors in bright green light.

Thwip! Thwip!

Two guards fell before they could even raise their weapons. Matteo sprinted down the spiral stone staircase into the damp basement level.

There, bound to wooden chairs, was Elena Romano and her three children. Above them, suspended from an oak beam, was the explosive device. The red LED display was ticking down rapidly:

00 : 18 : 42.

“Clear!” Matteo shouted, cutting Elena’s bindings while his explosive technician rushed to the bomb.

Elena collapsed into Matteo’s arms, weeping frantically. “My children! Save my children!”

“Don’t move, ma’am! We’re Alessandro Moretti’s men. You’re safe now!”

The technician stared at the bomb wiring, his forehead covered in cold sweat. “Capo… this isn’t a standard explosive! It’s a mercury-tilt switch combined with a secondary radio receiver! If we cut the wrong wire, or if the radio signal drops out, it detonates instantly!”

Back at Pier 42, Alessandro heard the technician’s frantic voice through his earpiece.

He slammed Anton’s head against the wooden pier. “How do we stop the timer?! TELL ME!”

Anton laughed hysterically, his teeth covered in crimson. “You can’t! The mastermind behind this isn’t here… He’s sitting right inside your own inner circle! The traitor isn’t Victor… it was never Victor!”

Alessandro froze. His blood ran cold.

“What did you say?”

“Victor was framed,” Anton wheezed, bleeding out onto the timber. “The man who ordered the hit… the man who placed the bomb under your desk… was the only man who had master access to every camera in your estate…”
