CHAPTER 7: "The One-Minute Countdown... And the Child Who Saved Millions"

59:59...

The countdown flashed across every monitor in Carter Global's underground data center.

Technicians pounded on keyboards.

Nothing responded.

Every backup server had been locked.

Every firewall had been bypassed.

FBI Director Sarah Collins stared at the screen.

"What is Protocol Black?"

Jonathan Carter's face turned ghostly pale.

"It was never supposed to exist."

Emily looked at him.

"What are you talking about?"

Jonathan swallowed hard.

"Twenty-five years ago, we secretly built a system that could destroy Carter Global in case it ever fell into criminal hands."

"It doesn't just erase company records."

"It wipes international banking transactions..."

"Deletes government contracts..."

"And triggers billions of dollars in automatic market liquidations."

Sarah whispered,

"If that countdown reaches zero..."

"The global financial market could collapse."

The room fell silent.

Meanwhile...

Forty thousand feet above the Atlantic Ocean...

William Carter sat alone inside his private jet, calmly sipping whiskey.

He smiled as he watched the timer on his tablet.

"You can arrest me..."

"But you'll never stop what's coming."

His pilot suddenly asked,

"Sir... are you sure this is worth it?"

William laughed.

"If I can't own the empire..."

"No one will."

Back at headquarters...

31:14...

The countdown kept falling.

Every cybersecurity expert had failed.

The encryption was unlike anything they had ever seen.

Emily felt hopeless.

Then...

The little boy quietly walked toward Jonathan.

"Grandpa..."

"I think I've seen this password before."

Everyone turned.

Jonathan frowned.

"What do you mean?"

The boy reached into his backpack and pulled out the old black notebook they had found in the vault.

"I thought these drawings were just puzzles."

He opened the final page.

It wasn't a drawing.

It was a child's game.

A chessboard.

Every square contained numbers.

Emily suddenly gasped.

"The password..."

"It isn't words."

"It's a chess sequence."

Jonathan's eyes widened.

"My father taught me this game..."

"When I was seven."

The little boy smiled.

"He taught me too."

Sarah immediately entered the sequence.

Nothing happened.

For one terrifying second...

Everyone believed they had failed.

Then...

The monitors flashed green.

ACCESS GRANTED.

The room erupted with cheers.

The countdown froze.

00:07

Only seven seconds remained.

Protocol Black had been stopped.

Millions of lives had just been saved...

By a seven-year-old boy.

But before anyone could celebrate...

Every monitor suddenly switched to a live video feed.

William Carter appeared on the screen from inside his jet.

He was smiling.

"You really thought that was my final move?"

Jonathan's heart sank.

William held up a small remote control.

"I've spent twenty-eight years planning this."

"The countdown was only a distraction."

Emily whispered,

"What have you done?"

William laughed.

"I didn't hide my fortune..."

"I moved it."

A map appeared on every screen.

Hundreds of secret offshore accounts lit up across the world.

More than $38 billion had already vanished.

Then William looked directly into the camera.

"You stopped me from destroying the company..."

"But you'll never catch the money."

He raised his thumb over the remote.

"And now..."

"I'm taking my last secret to the grave."

He pressed the button.

Suddenly...

The video feed filled with alarms.

Smoke poured into the cockpit.

The pilot screamed.

The aircraft violently lost altitude.

Emily shouted,

"No!"

The transmission froze.

Then disappeared.

Radar operators stared at their screens.

The private jet had vanished over the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

No distress signal.

No wreckage.

No survivors.

Or so everyone believed.

Three days later...

A fisherman on a remote island found a waterproof metal case washed onto the shore.

Inside was a satellite phone...

A fake passport...

And a handwritten note with only one sentence.

"This game isn't over. See you soon, Emily."

Emily slowly folded the note.

For the first time since the nightmare began...

She realized the truth.

William Carter had never planned to escape the law.

He had planned to disappear...

May you like

And become a ghost.
