CHAPTER 4 — THE SON WHO REFUSED TO CALL HIM "DAD"

The trial became the most watched court case in America.
Every television network carried it live.
Outside the courthouse, thousands of people gathered with signs that read:
"Justice for Amelia."
Inside, Ethan looked nothing like the confident billionaire he once was.
His expensive suits had been replaced by a prison uniform.
His lawyers had only one defense.
"There is no proof Mr. Caldwell intended to murder his wife."
Amelia slowly stood.
"I have one final witness."
The courtroom doors opened.
A small boy, barely a year old, walked in holding Amelia's hand.
The little boy had bright blue eyes—the same eyes Ethan saw every morning in the mirror.
Gasps echoed across the courtroom.
The judge smiled gently.
"And who is this?"
Amelia answered calmly.
"This is my son."
"Our son."
Ethan burst into tears.
He stretched out his trembling hands.
"Please... let me hold him."
The little boy looked at him with innocent eyes.
For a brief second, Ethan believed he still had a chance to be forgiven.
But the child slowly hid behind Amelia's leg.
Without anyone telling him what to do...
He whispered five heartbreaking words.
"You're not my daddy."
The courtroom fell completely silent.
Even the reporters lowered their cameras.
Amelia looked directly into Ethan's eyes.
"You didn't just try to kill me."
"You chose to erase your own family."
Then she handed the judge one final envelope.
Inside was a letter written by Amelia's late father years before his death.
It revealed an unbelievable truth.
Ethan had never been accepted into the Caldwell family.
Every share he believed he inherited...
Every mansion...
Every private jet...
Every dollar...
Had always been held in a protected family trust.
And the sole beneficiary wasn't Amelia.
It was her child.
The baby Ethan tried to kill had legally become the richest heir in the entire Caldwell empire the moment he was born.
Ethan screamed in disbelief.
"No! That's impossible!"
The judge quietly signed the final order.
"All remaining assets connected to Ethan Caldwell are hereby seized pending criminal forfeiture."
Police officers placed handcuffs on Ethan once again.
As they led him away, he turned for one last look at the little boy.
"Daddy loves you..."
The child simply buried his face against Amelia's shoulder.
He never looked back.
Outside the courthouse, Amelia stood beneath the bright afternoon sun, holding her son close.
She whispered softly,
"We survived the storm."
"But this is only the beginning."
Because hidden inside her father's letter was a second secret...
One that revealed Ethan had never acted alone.

Someone far more powerful had financed the murder.
And that person was still free.
