CHAPTER 6 — THE MAN SHE SWORE TO HATE SAVED HER LIFE

The panic room was silent.
Amelia held her son tightly, barely daring to breathe.
Outside, the masked men searched every room.
Then...
A gunshot echoed through the mansion.
One.
Then another.
The voices suddenly stopped.
Seconds later, someone entered the security control room.
The emergency monitor flickered back to life.
Amelia couldn't believe what she saw.
The masked intruders were lying unconscious across the marble floor.
Standing among them was only one man.
Ethan.
Still wearing his prison uniform.
His wrists were bleeding where the handcuffs had been cut away.
Amelia's heart filled with rage.
"How is this possible?"
Before she could think, the panic room door slowly unlocked from the outside.
Ethan raised both hands.
"I'm not here to hurt you."
Amelia pointed a pistol directly at his chest.
"One more step and I'll finish what the ocean couldn't."
Ethan didn't move.
Instead, he slowly placed a bloodstained envelope on the floor.
"You need to read this."
"I don't believe a single word you say."
"You don't have to."
"You only have to believe my mother."
Inside the envelope were classified documents stolen from Victoria's private safe.
Every page exposed another horrifying secret.
There wasn't just one murder.
There were twelve.
Twelve people connected to the Caldwell fortune had died in mysterious "accidents" over the last twenty-five years.
Business partners.
Lawyers.
Accountants.
Even members of Victoria's own family.
Every death had made her richer.
Then Amelia reached the final page.
Her hands began to shake uncontrollably.
It was Ethan's birth certificate.
Across the bottom was one sentence written in red ink.
BIOLOGICAL FATHER: UNKNOWN.
Attached was a DNA report.
Victoria Caldwell...
Wasn't Ethan's mother.
She had kidnapped him as a toddler after a devastating house fire that killed his real parents.
She raised him as her own...
Only to turn him into the perfect weapon.
Tears streamed down Ethan's face.
"My whole life was a lie."
"I thought I was protecting my family."
"I never realized... I was destroying someone else's."
Amelia looked into his eyes.
For the first time...
She didn't see the arrogant man who had thrown her into the ocean.
She saw a broken soul who had been manipulated since childhood.
Before either of them could speak again...
Every phone in the mansion buzzed at exactly the same second.
A live video appeared automatically.
Victoria smiled into the camera, sipping tea as if nothing had happened.
"I knew you'd eventually discover the truth."
She looked directly into the camera.
"Ethan..."
"I never loved you."
"You were just easier to control than having my own child."
Ethan collapsed to his knees.
Victoria continued smiling.
"But now both of you know too much."
She pressed a small remote control in her hand.
At that exact moment...
A mechanical voice echoed throughout the mansion.
"Self-destruct sequence activated."
Red warning lights flooded every hallway.
The countdown appeared on every screen.
05:00...
04:59...
04:58...
The entire mansion had been turned into a giant bomb.
May you like
And the only road leading out...
Had just exploded.
