CHAPTER 2 — The Man Nobody Recognized

Ten minutes later...

The ballroom doors opened again.

This time, nobody applauded.

An elderly man wearing a simple gray suit walked inside with two assistants.

Few employees recognized him.

Melissa certainly didn't.

She frowned.

"Excuse me, sir. This is a private company event."

The old man ignored her.

Instead, every executive sitting in the front row immediately stood up.

One by one.

Then all at once.

The chairman himself hurried forward.

"Mr. Harrington..."

The room froze.

Melissa's smile disappeared.

Richard Harrington.

The billionaire founder of the company.

The man who almost never appeared in public.

He looked around the silent ballroom.

"Where is Daniel Carter?"

Nobody answered.

Melissa forced a smile.

"He was dismissed for corporate espionage."

Richard's expression didn't change.

"Really?"

"Yes, sir. We completed our investigation."

"Did you?"

He slowly placed a thick folder on the podium.

"I received this folder forty-five minutes ago."

Melissa swallowed hard.

"It contains security footage."

Her confidence cracked.

"It also contains deleted emails."

A few executives exchanged nervous glances.

"And the financial transfers hidden inside an offshore account."

The room became deadly quiet.

Richard opened the folder.

"The interesting part..."

He looked directly into Melissa's eyes.

"...is that Daniel Carter isn't the employee who stole company secrets."

Melissa's breathing became uneven.

Richard continued.

"Someone used Daniel's employee ID."

"No..."

"The security logs were altered."

Melissa took a step backward.

Richard's voice became colder.

"And whoever did it forgot one tiny detail."

He lifted a single printed photograph.

A photo nobody in the room had ever seen.

The entire ballroom gasped.

Because standing beside the restricted server room...

Was Melissa herself.

And beside her...

Was someone every executive trusted.

The company's Chief Financial Officer.

Richard slowly looked across the stunned audience.

"I believe..."

He paused long enough for every heartbeat in the room to be heard.

"...we fired the wrong employee."

The ballroom exploded into chaos.

But Richard wasn't finished.

May you like

Because hidden inside the same folder...

Was one document that would expose a conspiracy far bigger than simple corporate theft—a conspiracy that reached the company's board itself.
