CHAPTER 2 — "The Woman Everyone Thought Was Dead"

The gray-hooded woman froze.
For several endless seconds...
Neither she nor Nathan moved.
Passengers looked back and forth between them, sensing something unbelievable was unfolding.
Nathan slowly stood.
His voice barely escaped his lips.
"Emily..."
The woman closed her eyes.
Not because she was afraid.
Because she had spent eight years preparing herself for this exact moment.
But never believed it would actually happen.
Oliver looked from his mother to Nathan with innocent excitement.
"See, Mommy?"
"I told you Daddy would remember us."
Gasps rippled across the terminal.
Several travelers had already begun recording.
Nathan ignored every camera pointed toward him.
His eyes never left Emily.
"I watched your funeral."
His voice cracked.
"They found the wreckage..."
"They said there were no survivors."
Emily smiled sadly.
"They wanted you to believe that."
Nathan felt the ground disappear beneath him.
"What do you mean?"
Emily glanced nervously around the terminal.
"There are people here."
"They're still watching."
Nathan's security chief instantly noticed two men wearing identical baseball caps standing unusually still near Gate 18.
Not travelers.
Not airport staff.
Watching.
Waiting.
The chief quietly spoke into his radio.
"We've got surveillance."
At that exact second...
One of the mysterious men suddenly reached inside his jacket.
The bodyguards reacted instantly.
"Protect Mr. Carter!"
Chaos exploded across the terminal.
Passengers screamed.
Security officers rushed toward the scene.
The two strangers bolted through the crowd instead of attacking.
Nathan instinctively grabbed Oliver with one arm while pulling Emily behind him.
The frightened little boy clung tightly to Nathan's jacket.
"Daddy..."
Nathan looked down at him.
For the first time...
The word didn't feel impossible.
It felt...
Right.
Airport police quickly chased the fleeing suspects, but both disappeared into the parking structure before they could be caught.
Minutes later, inside a secure VIP lounge, Emily finally revealed the truth.
"There was never a plane crash."
Nathan stared at her.
"The crash was staged."
"They wanted access to your father's prototype aviation AI."
"When I refused to tell them where your encrypted research files were hidden..."
"They made the world believe I died."
Nathan's breathing became shallow.
"My father..."
Emily nodded.
"He discovered the conspiracy before he died."
"He hid the final encryption key somewhere no one would ever suspect."
Nathan frowned.
"Where?"
Emily slowly looked toward Oliver.
The little boy smiled innocently.
Nathan followed her gaze.
Then his eyes widened.
The old photograph.
The faded picture Oliver had been carrying all morning.
Nathan carefully removed it from the envelope.
For the first time...
He held it against the light.
Hidden beneath the aging paper...
Tiny handwritten coordinates slowly appeared.
Not ordinary ink.
Invisible security ink.
His father's handwriting.
Nathan whispered in disbelief.
"My God..."
Emily nodded.
"Oliver wasn't carrying a memory."
"He was carrying the last key to exposing the people who destroyed our lives."
Outside the VIP lounge...
A black luxury SUV quietly pulled up beside the terminal.
Inside, an elderly man wearing black gloves watched through tinted windows.
He smiled coldly.
"So..."
"They finally found each other."
He reached for his phone.
"Begin Phase Two."
The line went dead.
Nathan had just reunited with the family he believed he'd lost forever.

But he had no idea...
The real war was only beginning.
