Chapter 2 - Blood on the Stock Floor

By 8:00 AM, the financial district was ablaze with rumors. The news hit the ticker before the opening bell even rang: VANCE ENTERPRISES TERMINATES ALL MERGER TALKS WITH JULIAN GLOBAL HOLDINGS; CHARGES OF CORPORATE FRAUD FILED.
The television screens across Wall Street broadcast images of Julian arriving at his corporate headquarters, swarmed by reporters, flashbulbs exploding like lightning in his eyes. His gray suit, usually immaculate, looked wrinkled. His jaw was visibly bruised, and his desperate attempts to dodge questions only amplified the bloodbath happening on the market board.
JULIAN GLOBAL (JGH) - OPEN: $142.50 ---> CURRENT: $41.20 [-71%] MARKET SUSPENSION IMMINENT.
In the top floor office of Vance Enterprises, Vivienne watched the numbers plummet on a wall-sized monitor. She wore a tailored crimson power suit, her hair pulled back into a slick, uncompromising style. There was no trace of the quiet, obedient wife who had spent years shrinking herself to make Julian feel tall.
Her assistant, a sharp young woman named Clara, stepped into the office with a tablet. "Miss Vance—forgive me, Ms. Vance—Julian’s legal team has filed an emergency injunction to unfreeze the liquidity accounts, claiming mental distress and duress on your part."
"Let them file," Vivienne replied without looking away from the screen. "Has the discovery team breached their private server yet?"
"Yes. We recovered the deleted correspondence between Julian and Victoria Sterling."
Vivienne’s eyes flicked to Clara. "Victoria?"
"Yes, ma'am. The heiress to Sterling Logistics. It appears Julian wasn't just trading your devotion for speculative assets—he was planning to replace you entirely. Victoria Sterling transferred $50 million into Julian’s offshore accounts three weeks ago. It was a pre-merger injection. In exchange, Julian promised to hand over Vance Enterprises' proprietary shipping algorithms once he secured your signature last night."
A cold, bitter laughter bubbled up in Vivienne’s chest. Julian hadn't just been unfaithful; he had tried to sell her family's crown jewels to their biggest rival, all while parading around as a self-made tycoon.
"They played a dangerous game," Vivienne said quietly. "Where is Victoria now?"
"She’s currently holding a press conference at the Plaza, trying to distance Sterling Logistics from Julian Global before their own shares take a hit."
"Call the press gallery," Vivienne commanded, turning around. "Tell them I will be holding my own statement in thirty minutes. And make sure Victoria Sterling's primary creditors are invited to the front row."
Thirty minutes later, the grand ballroom of the Vance Headquarters was packed to capacity. Microphones from every major news network lined the podium. When Vivienne walked out, the room went dead silent. The posture of the battered woman from the night before had completely vanished. She looked like a queen taking back her throne.
"Good morning," Vivienne began, her voice echoing with absolute authority. "For the past five years, I operated under the assumption that partnership required sacrifice. I allowed my personal assets to support Julian Global under the belief that we were building a future together. Today, I stand before you to correct a grand illusion."
She gestured to the large screen behind her. Documents, bank statements, and encrypted chat logs flickered into view for the entire world’s media to see.
"Julian Global was not built on innovation. It was built on systemic embezzlement, forged signatures, and corporate espionage orchestrated by Julian Escalando and supported by key shareholders—including Sterling Logistics."
Gasps filled the room. Cameras clicked rapidly as reporters rushed to record the evidence displayed on the screen.
"As of 9:00 AM today," Vivienne continued, staring straight into the main camera lens, "Vance Enterprises has acquired eighty-five percent of Julian Global's outstanding debt. We are initiating an immediate hostile takeover. To Julian Escalando, I have one message: your debts are due by sunrise. And I am no longer your collateral."
Back in his office, Julian watched the broadcast on his muted TV screen. His phone slipped from his numb fingers, shattering on the hardwood floor.
The door to his office burst open without a knock. Eleanor stood there, her face contorted in absolute panic, accompanied by two federal agents in dark coats.
"Julian Escalando?" one of the agents asked, holding up a badge. "We have a warrant for your arrest regarding wire fraud, corporate espionage, and illegal asset transfers. Please step away from the desk."
"No! Wait!" Eleanor screamed, grabbing the agent’s arm. "This is a misunderstanding! It’s his wife—it’s a domestic dispute!"
"I am no longer his wife," a calm voice rang out from the hallway.

Julian looked up through bleary eyes. Vivienne stepped past the federal agents into the room, flanked by four security guards and her father's top corporate attorney. She looked down at Julian, her gaze cold and unyielding.
"You wanted my signature, Julian," Vivienne said, tossing a pen onto his desk. "Sign the confession, or spend the next twenty years watching my family rebuild yours from inside a federal cell."
