Chapter 2 - THE MIDNIGHT INTRUSION — Who is Watching the Girls?

At 2:14 AM, the silent alarms tripped.

Alexander was awake before the second red flash pulsed against his bedroom wall. He grabbed the concealed firearm from his bedside drawer and moved through the shadows of the penthouse with silent, lethal precision.

He didn't check the vault. He didn't check his servers. He sprinted straight to the girls' bedroom.

The door was ajar.

Inside, the moonlight cut through the floor-to-ceiling glass. Chloe was fast asleep, clutching her stuffed bear. But Lily's bed was empty. Alexander’s heart hammered against his ribs—a raw, primal panic he had never experienced in any corporate warfare.

"Lily?" he whispered sharply.

A small shadow moved near the kitchen island. Alexander pivoted, weapon raised, only to lower it instantly. Lily was sitting on the counter, holding a glass of spilled water, tears silently streaming down her face. Standing over her was a figure dressed in a black security uniform.

But it wasn't Marcus.

"Step away from her," Alexander said, his voice dropping to a deadly, quiet register.

The intruder turned slowly. Underneath the tactical cap was a woman’s face. She didn't look like a assassin; she looked terrified. "Alexander, please. I’m not here to hurt them. I’m here to save them from Richard."

"Who are you?"

"My name is Elena," she breathed, her hands raised. "I’m Lily and Chloe's biological mother. Richard told me they were dead. He told me they died in a fire a year ago so he could take them and use them for his twisted scheme. I only found out they were alive when I saw your car security footage leaked on the dark web."

Before Alexander could process the revelation, the glass wall behind them shattered.

A flashbang grenade detonated in the living room, filling the penthouse with blinding white light and a deafening roar. In the chaos, heavy footsteps pounded against the marble. Alexander lunged through the smoke, grabbing Lily in one arm and rushing to Chloe's room, but a heavy blow struck his shoulder, sending him crashing to the floor.

Through the ringing in his ears, he heard Richard Vance’s laughing voice through a megaphone from the terrace escape route: "Tick-tock, billionaire. The price just went up to fifty million."

When the smoke cleared, Elena was gone. And so was Chloe.
