Chapter 5 - THE VENGEFUL RETURN — Face-to-Face with the Monster

The storm had returned, battering the decayed iron structure of Pier 42. Inside the cavernous, rusted warehouse, the sound of the ocean roaring beneath the floorboards was deafening.
Alexander walked in alone, his hands visible, holding a single encrypted flash drive containing the Project Genesis data.
In the center of the warehouse, tied to a chair under a single flickering floodlight, was Chloe. Her eyes were wide with terror, but when she saw Alexander, a tiny spark of hope lit up her face. "Daddy!" she cried out.
From the shadows stepped Richard Vance, holding a heavy-caliber pistol. Beside him stood Elena—the woman from the penthouse.
"Ah, the fallen king," Richard mocked, walking a circle around Alexander. "No suits. No bodyguards. Just a broken billionaire playing hero. Give me the drive."
Alexander didn't flinch. "Let the girl go first."
Elena stepped forward, her face cold, devoid of the fear she had shown in the penthouse. "He doesn't understand yet, Richard. Tell him."
Alexander looked between them, a sickening realization dawning on him. "You two are working together. The 'grieving mother' act was just to get inside my perimeter."
"Of course it was," Elena sneered. "We needed to know if you had unlocked the encryption codes your father left in your DNA. Only a direct blood relative's biometric scan could open the Genesis vault. You did it for us when you accessed the files to check on the girls' profiles. We didn't even need to hack you—you opened the door out of love."
Richard grabbed the drive from Alexander’s hand and forced Alexander’s thumb onto a portable biometric scanner. The scanner beeped green. Access Granted.
"Perfect," Richard grinned, aiming the gun directly at Alexander's chest. "Now that we have the data, you, the girl, and this old warehouse are going to vanish into the Atlantic. A tragic corporate suicide."
"You missed one detail, Richard," Alexander said quietly, even as the barrel of the gun pressed against his forehead.
"Oh yeah? What's that?"
"I didn't bring my security team," Alexander whispered. "I brought the federal authorities. I leaked the Project Genesis data to the Department of Justice thirty minutes ago. The company is gone, the data is public domain, and you have nothing left to sell."

Sirens wailed in the distance, cutting through the storm. Red and blue lights began flashing through the cracked warehouse windows.
Richard’s face contorted into pure, unadulterated rage. "You ruined it! I'll kill her!" He spun around, aiming the gun at Chloe.
