CHAPTER 2 — THE SECRET THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

After leaving the restaurant, Ethan wandered through the rain with nowhere to go.
His phone buzzed.
No friends.
No family.
Only one message from an unknown number.
"Meet me at the old warehouse. Midnight. Come alone."
Curious—and with nothing left to lose—he went.
Inside the abandoned building stood the same elderly dishwasher who had quietly worked at Bennett's Steakhouse for nearly fifteen years.
His name wasn't George.
It was Gabriel Laurent.
And Ethan's world stopped spinning when the old man handed him a faded photograph.
In the picture...
A teenage Richard Bennett stood proudly beside the greatest chef in Europe.
Standing next to them was a young apprentice.
That apprentice...
...was Gabriel.
"I wasn't hired to wash dishes," Gabriel said calmly.
"I came to keep a promise."
Ethan stared at him in disbelief.
Gabriel revealed that decades earlier, Richard had stolen the signature recipes that made Bennett's empire famous.
The true genius behind those dishes had never received credit.
It wasn't Richard.
It was Gabriel.
"I stayed close because I was waiting for the right person," Gabriel said.
"And that person is you."
From an old wooden chest, Gabriel pulled out a leather notebook filled with handwritten recipes that had never been published.
Techniques worth millions.
Secrets that the world's greatest chefs had searched for.
For the next several months, Ethan trained in complete silence.
No cameras.
No social media.
No investors.
Only discipline.
Then one evening, an international cooking competition announced a surprise contestant.
Ethan Bennett.
His father laughed when he saw the name.
"What a joke," Richard sneered during a television interview.
"He couldn't even survive in my kitchen."
Millions watched the final.
No one expected the judges to burst into tears after tasting Ethan's final dish.
Then the head judge slowly stood up...
looked directly at Richard in the audience...
and asked one question that made the entire room gasp:
"Mr. Bennett... would you like to explain why this recipe appears in a notebook written thirty years ago by Chef Gabriel Laurent... instead of yours?"
Richard's face instantly turned white.
May you like
His empire wasn't about to grow.
It was about to collapse.
