CHAPTER 4 — THE SON HE NEVER KNEW

Ethan couldn't breathe.
The old dishwasher.
The forgotten chef.
The man who had trained him in secret...
was his real father.
Gabriel's eyes filled with pain.
"I didn't know," he whispered. "Your mother told me you died at birth."
Ethan stepped back like the words had burned him.
"Then why should I believe you now?"
Gabriel handed him another envelope.
Inside were hospital records, letters, and one photograph.
Margaret holding a newborn baby.
Beside her stood Gabriel, smiling like the happiest man alive.
On the back of the photo were six words:
"Our son, Ethan. Our miracle."
The truth finally came out.
Thirty years ago, Richard had been Gabriel's business partner. Gabriel had the talent. Richard had the money.
But Margaret had loved Gabriel.
Richard could not accept it.
So he stole Gabriel's recipes, destroyed his reputation, and convinced Margaret that Gabriel had abandoned her. Then he raised Ethan as his own—not out of love, but as revenge.
He wanted Gabriel's son to spend his entire life feeling worthless.
Ethan returned to Bennett's Steakhouse the next morning.
The same kitchen where he had been humiliated was now packed with reporters.
Richard stood in front of them, smiling arrogantly.
Until Ethan walked in.
Behind him came Gabriel.
And behind Gabriel came Margaret, her face pale, holding every document Richard had forced her to hide.
Richard's smile disappeared.
Margaret looked at Ethan and whispered, "I'm sorry."
But Ethan didn't look at her.
He looked at Richard.
"You didn't just steal recipes," Ethan said. "You stole my life."
That night, Bennett's Steakhouse lost everything.
The awards.
The investors.
The family name.
But Ethan did something no one expected.
He did not take revenge.
He opened a tiny restaurant with Gabriel.
No gold walls.
No famous guests.
Just twelve tables...
and a sign above the door:
"Laurent & Son."
On opening night, every table was booked for the next two years.
But the final shock came when Richard Bennett appeared at the back door...
wearing a dishwasher's apron.

And this time...
Ethan was the one holding the keys.
