Chapter 8 - THE NEW HORIZON — EPILOGUESix months later, the courtroom trial concluded with swift and unyielding justice.

Fabián Herrera was sentenced to twelve years in federal prison without parole, his legal career permanently incinerated in the fires of his own greed. Mónica Salgado received a ten-year sentence for her direct role in elder abuse, physical coercion, and financial forgery. Not a single peso of the illicit gains remained in their possession; the court stripped them of every luxury asset they had acquired, auctioning them off to establish a state-wide foundation for elderly care and legal defense against elder fraud—a foundation that Doña Amalia and Julián proudly helped fund and oversee.
On a bright, crisp Saturday morning in Valle de Bravo, the air smelled of damp pine needles, rich earth, and blooming wildflowers.
Julián parked the car near the edge of the family estate. With Mateo’s help, they assisted Doña Amalia out of the vehicle and into a specialized all-terrain wheelchair.
The elderly woman looked out across rolling green hills, dense pine forests, and the sparkling blue expanse of the lake shimmering in the distance. The very land her father had planted decades ago stood tall, untouched, and free.
A gentle mountain breeze caught the white calla lilies resting in her lap.
"It’s beautiful, Julián," Doña Amalia whispered, her voice filled with profound peace. "We survived the storm."

Julián crouched down beside her wheelchair, holding her warm, unbruised hands, and looked out toward the horizon where the sun was breaking gloriously through the clouds.
"We did, Mom," Julián smiled, looking toward a future filled with light, truth, and unconditional love. "We finally came home."
