# CHAPTER 3 — “THE DYING PATRIARCH OPENED ONE ENVELOPE… AND DISINHERITED HIS ENTIRE FAMILY IN FRONT OF EVERYONE”

Before anyone could recover...

A deep voice echoed from the mansion entrance.

"Enough."

Every head turned.

An elderly man slowly emerged, supported by an elegant ebony cane.

Arthur Montgomery.

Ninety-two years old.

Founder of the Montgomery empire.

The man no one had seen publicly in nearly two years.

Even Eleanor looked shocked.

"Father... you should be resting."

Arthur ignored her.

His cloudy blue eyes landed directly on my three boys.

Then...

Something extraordinary happened.

The old billionaire smiled.

Not politely.

Not socially.

Genuinely.

"So..."

He whispered.

"My great-grandsons finally came home."

A wave of disbelief swept through the guests.

Eleanor stepped forward immediately.

"Father, don't let her manipulate—"

"Silence."

His voice was quiet.

Yet powerful enough to stop everyone.

Arthur slowly approached Liam.

He reached into his jacket.

Pulled out an old photograph.

It showed Ethan as a little boy...

Standing beside Arthur.

Wearing the exact same crooked smile Liam had.

Arthur held the picture beside Liam's face.

No one could deny the resemblance.

Not anymore.

Then he turned toward Ethan.

"I warned you."

Ethan lowered his head.

Arthur continued.

"I told you years ago..."

"If you ever allowed this family to choose power over love..."

"You would lose everything worth inheriting."

No one moved.

Arthur nodded toward his attorney.

A silver-haired lawyer stepped forward carrying a sealed envelope.

"I changed my will six months ago," Arthur announced.

Eleanor froze.

"What?"

"The final amendment has never been opened."

Her confidence returned for a split second.

She smiled.

"Of course it favors Ethan."

Arthur looked at her with quiet disappointment.

"It favors the only Montgomerys whose hearts haven't been poisoned."

The attorney broke the seal.

Every guest leaned closer.

He began reading.

"I, Arthur James Montgomery..."

"...hereby remove Eleanor Montgomery..."

"...remove Ethan Montgomery..."

"...and remove every voting member who knowingly concealed the existence of my biological great-grandchildren..."

A gasp rolled through the crowd.

Eleanor's face turned ghost white.

"No..."

The attorney continued.

"Seventy percent of Montgomery Family Holdings shall be transferred into an irrevocable trust..."

"...beneficiaries..."

He looked up.

"...Liam Montgomery."

"...Noah Montgomery."

"...Caleb Montgomery."

The estate erupted.

Caroline stumbled backward.

"This is impossible!"

The attorney calmly lifted another document.

"It was legally executed before six witnesses."

Arthur smiled faintly.

"My empire belongs to the next generation."

Eleanor suddenly grabbed Arthur's arm.

"You can't do this!"

He slowly removed her hand.

"I already did."

Then he turned toward me.

"I owe you an apology."

The entire estate fell silent.

"I believed my family when they told me you married Ethan for money."

He shook his head.

"But a woman who builds a multibillion-dollar company while raising triplets alone..."

"...never needed ours."

Tears filled Ethan's eyes.

He looked at me.

"I'll spend the rest of my life trying to earn their forgiveness."

Before I could answer...

Liam quietly walked toward him.

The little boy reached into his pocket.

He pulled out a tiny folded piece of paper.

"I made this."

Ethan carefully opened it.

Inside was a childish drawing.

A stick-figure family.

One mother.

Three boys.

And one empty space beside them.

Above it were six uneven words written in crayon:

"Maybe Daddy Can Stand Here Someday."

Ethan broke down completely.

Guests who had arrived expecting the wedding of the century instead witnessed the collapse of an empire...

...the rewriting of a family legacy...

...and three little boys unknowingly becoming the richest heirs in Chicago.

As for Caroline?

She quietly removed her engagement ring...

Placed it on the abandoned wedding altar...

And walked away without saying a single word.

Because everyone finally understood the greatest truth of that unforgettable afternoon:

May you like

The Montgomery fortune had never been saved by wealth.

It had been rescued by the family they tried to erase.
