CHAPTER 7 — “THE POLICE THOUGHT THE TRIPLETS HAD BEEN KIDNAPPED… UNTIL A FIVE-YEAR-OLD'S BRILLIANT IDEA SAVED THEM ALL”

Within minutes, our entire neighborhood was surrounded.

Police.

FBI agents.

Private security teams.

Helicopters.

Every road leading out of the subdivision was sealed.

Ethan arrived in less than ten minutes.

He didn't even stop his car completely before jumping out.

"Where are they?"

I could barely speak.

"I don't know..."

His face turned pale.

Arthur arrived shortly afterward, leaning heavily on his cane.

"This isn't about revenge anymore," he said quietly.

"This is a crime."

Meanwhile...

Forty miles away...

Three little boys sat quietly inside a luxury SUV.

The driver kept checking his phone.

"Boss says we wait."

Liam looked out the window.

He wasn't crying.

Neither were Noah or Caleb.

Their mother had always taught them one important lesson.

If you're scared... don't panic. Think.

Liam leaned toward his brothers and whispered,

"Remember what Mom said?"

Noah nodded.

"Leave clues."

Caleb slowly pulled one of his tiny toy dinosaurs from his pocket.

Every few minutes, whenever the driver looked away, the boys quietly dropped another toy.

A blue dinosaur.

A red race car.

A tiny green soldier.

A trail.

Almost invisible.

Back at the house, one of the K-9 officers suddenly stopped.

"Wait."

He pointed toward the road.

"There's a toy."

Another officer looked farther ahead.

"And another."

The police drones immediately changed direction.

The toys continued for nearly three miles.

The lead detective smiled.

"Smart kids."

"Very smart."

The trail ended at an abandoned lakeside guesthouse once owned by the Montgomery family decades earlier.

SWAT teams quietly surrounded the property.

Inside, the hired men had no idea they had already been found.

One officer whispered into his radio.

"We have visual."

Three children.

Alive.

Unharmed.

The rescue team counted down silently.

Three...

Two...

One.

The front door exploded inward.

"Federal agents! Don't move!"

The kidnappers never had a chance.

Minutes later, Ethan burst through the doorway.

"Liam!"

Three little boys ran straight into his arms.

For several seconds, no one spoke.

Ethan held them tighter than he'd ever held anyone in his life.

"I'm here."

"I'm so sorry."

"I'm never letting anyone take you away again."

Outside, investigators searched the house.

One detective walked toward Arthur carrying a cellphone.

"We found the organizer."

Arthur looked at the screen.

His expression turned to stone.

The phone records didn't lead to Eleanor.

They led to someone no one expected.

Caroline Hastings.

The bride who had quietly disappeared after the wedding.

She had secretly financed the kidnapping through a private security contractor, hoping to destroy both the Montgomery family and the scandal that had ruined her political future.

Arthur closed his eyes.

"So..."

"It wasn't over."

The detective nodded grimly.

May you like

"No."

"It was only the beginning."
