Chapter 5 - THE COLLAPSE OF THE ALLIANCEPanic erupted instantly in the boardroom.

Rebeca turned on Esteban with the fury of a cornered tigress, grabbing the lapels of his executive suit and shoving him backward against the mahogany wall.

"You lied to me!" she screamed, her voice cracking with hysteria. "You told me Julián was broke! You told me the hospital was drowning in debt and that we had to secure the assets now before the creditors seized everything!"

"Shut up, you absolute fool!" Esteban hissed, shoving her away and trying to maintain a shred of his professional dignity as he adjusted his tie. "You wanted the penthouse in Lomas de Angelópolis! You wanted the cars! I just gave you the legal vehicle to get them!"

"Enough," Camilo Duarte commanded, raising a hand. The two federal bailiffs stepped forward, their heavy boots clicking on the floor as they closed the distance between the table and the two conspirators.

Camilo opened another folder, revealing a thick stack of financial statements and wire transfer receipts.

"Rebeca Solís," Camilo recited formally. "Under federal indictment numbers 884 through 912, you are formally implicated in corporate conspiracy, money laundering, and fraudulent asset concealment. Any attempt to access Santa Lucía Hospital’s operational accounts will result in immediate asset forfeiture of all personal properties, including your residence, vehicles, and private accounts."

Rebeca staggered backward, her manicured hands flying to her face. "No... no, this isn't real. This is a nightmare. Julián, please! We were married for fifteen years! You can't do this to me!"

Julián looked at her—not with anger, not with hatred, but with a profound, chilling indifference.

"Fifteen years, Rebeca," Julián said softly, stepping closer to her. "And in all those years, you never once asked me why I slept on the floor of a public clinic for three years before opening this place. You never asked me what it cost to build Santa Lucía from the ground up."

He leaned in close, his voice dropping to a whisper that only she could hear.

"You thought I was just a doctor who got lucky. You forgot that before I ever put on a stethoscope, I spent five years working as a corporate forensic accountant. I built this hospital to save lives, Rebeca. But I built its foundation so no parasite could ever tear it down."
