Chapter 8 - The Rising GenerationEvan remained seated near the door, clutching his iPad tightly against his chest. He looked exhausted, pale, and overwhelmed, yet a quiet spark of awe burned in his eyes.

Claire walked down the length of the table and stopped a few feet away from the young analyst.
"You took a massive risk today, Evan," Claire said, her tone softening just a fraction. "You could have been fired, blacklisted, or worse."
Evan looked up, offering a tired, genuine smile. "I didn't risk my job, Ms. Hartwell. I risked my future. And working for a company built on a lie didn't seem like much of a future to begin with."
Claire studied him for a moment—the sharp intelligence, the calm under pressure, the unwavering loyalty to the truth. It reminded her faintly of Thomas Reid when he was a young man, and even of her father during the terrifying early days of the company's inception.
"What is your current title, Evan?" Claire asked.
"Junior Financial Analyst, Level Two," Evan replied, straightening his posture.
Claire pulled a sleek metal pen from her jacket pocket, clicked it open, and scrawled a brief note across the back of an agenda sheet, sliding it across the table toward him.
Evan picked it up. His eyes widened in disbelief.
Written in bold, elegant handwriting was a promotion to Chief Financial Officer of Hartwell Advanced Textiles, effective immediately, accompanied by a restructuring bonus that instantly tripled his salary.
"Ma'am... I—I don't know what to say," Evan stammered, staring at the paper. "I haven't even finished my master's degree."
"My father didn't care about degrees, Evan. He cared about character," Claire said quietly, walking toward the large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the glittering skyline of New York City. "And today, you showed more character than every single executive who sat at this table."
She turned back to face him, her expression firm and resolute.

Evan stood up, his posture straight, his eyes gleaming with fierce determination. "Yes, ma'am. Right away."
