Chapter 1 - The Shattered MirageJasper stood frozen on the Denver tarmac, the chill of the mountain air doing nothing to dull the sudden, violent racing of his heart. The three boys clinging to Clara weren't just similar—they were mirror images of his own childhood photographs. Same unruly dark hair, same sharp jawline, same distinct dimple on the left cheek when they laughed.

"Clara..." Jasper’s voice cracked, stripping away every ounce of the polished, billionaire persona he had cultivated over a lifetime. "Who... whose children are those?"
Clara felt a cold sensation ripple down her spine, but she didn't flinch. She adjusted the youngest, four-year-old Leo, on her hip while six-year-old twins Ethan and Mason stood guardedly beside her, sensing the sudden spike in tension.
"They are my sons, Jasper," Clara said softly, her voice steady and razor-sharp. "And they have a life that doesn't involve you."
"They're mine," Jasper whispered, taking a desperate step forward. "Look at them, Clara! You can't sit there and tell me—"
"I don't have to tell you anything," Clara interrupted, signaling to a sleek black SUV parked just steps away. A tall, well-dressed man stepped out of the driver’s side, walking purposefully toward them.
Jasper’s eyes narrowed instantly. "Who the hell is he? Is this him? The man from the texts five years ago?!"
The man smiled warmly at Clara, completely ignoring Jasper’s furious glare. "Everything ready, Clara? The board meeting at Vance Environmental starts in an hour, and the kids are excited for dinner."
"We're ready, Julian," Clara replied. She guided the boys toward the SUV.
"Clara, stop!" Jasper lunged forward, grabbing her elbow, but Julian seamlessly stepped between them, his hand firmly blocking Jasper's chest.
"I suggest you back off, Mr. Sterling," Julian said, his tone icy and controlled. "You lost the right to touch her—or demand answers from her—five years ago."

Jasper stared at Julian, then at Clara, who didn't even turn back as she buckled her sons into the SUV. As the vehicle pulled away into the Denver traffic, Jasper stood motionless in the crisp air. He pulled out his phone with trembling fingers and dialed his head of security.
"Find out everything about Clara Whitmore’s life for the past five years," Jasper ordered, his tone deadly. "Every dollar, every contact, every doctor's visit. And find out who Julian Vance really is."
