Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Sacrifice"Put the bar down, Richard," Jasper said, stepping slowly between Richard and Clara's family. "Your fight is with me. I was the one who handed the police the encrypted files. Clara had nothing to do with it."

"You ruined me because of her!" Richard roared, charging forward with the tire iron aimed directly at Jasper’s head.
Jasper didn't step back. He lunged forward to tackle Richard, wrestling the armed man away from Clara and the children. The two men crashed into a glass coffee table, shattering it into hundreds of sharp pieces.
Richard swung the tire iron wildly, catching Jasper across the shoulder with a sickening crack. Jasper gasped in pain but held on, pinning Richard’s arm against the floor.
"Clara! Get the kids out of here! Now!" Jasper yelled, his face slick with blood and sweat.
Clara didn't hesitate. She ushered Ethan, Mason, and Leo out of the bedroom and down the hallway to the panic room.
Inside the bedroom, Richard managed to pull a small, concealed pocketknife from his belt. Driven by pure desperation, he lunged upward, driving the blade deep into Jasper’s side.
Jasper grunted, the sharp pain taking his breath away, but he managed to twist Richard’s wrist until the knife clattered to the floor. Gathering the last of his strength, Jasper threw a heavy right hook that knocked Richard unconscious against the wooden floorboards.
Jasper fell back against the wall, clutching his bleeding side, his vision blurring around the edges as heavy footsteps echoed up the stairs.
Police officers stormed into the room with flashlights drawn, taking control of the scene and handcuffing the unconscious Richard.
Clara ran back into the bedroom, her eyes wide with horror as she saw Jasper slumped against the wall, pool of red spreading across his white shirt.
"Jasper!" Clara dropped to her knees beside him, pressing her hands firmly against his wound to stop the bleeding. "Stay with me! Look at me!"
Jasper looked up at her, a weak, painful smile touching his pale lips. "Are... are the boys safe?"
"They're safe. They're safe because of you," Clara sobbed, tears finally spilling down her cheeks. "Hold on, Jasper! The paramedics are right behind them!"

"Five years ago... I failed to protect you..." Jasper whispered, his breathing getting shallow. "I'm sorry, Clara... I'm so sorry..."
His eyes closed, and his hand fell limp against the floor.
