Chapter 3 - The Gala InterruptionThe grand ballroom of the Denver Convention Center was packed with world leaders, media tycoons, and tech billionaires. Clara stood near the glass balcony, holding a glass of sparkling water, exchanging pleasantries with international investors. She looked radiant, powerful, and utterly untouched by the ghost of her past.

Suddenly, the room went quiet.
Jasper Sterling entered the hall, but he wasn't surrounded by his usual entourage of PR handlers and bodyguards. His eyes locked onto Clara from across the room, completely ignoring the reporters shoving microphones into his face.
He walked straight toward her, cutting through the crowd like an unstoppable wave.
"Clara," he said as he reached her, his voice raw with raw emotion. "We need to talk. Right now."
Julian Vance stepped up beside Clara, but she gently raised a hand, stopping him. "It's fine, Julian. Let's give Mr. Sterling thirty seconds."
Jasper leaned in, his eyes red-rimmed. "I saw the medical records, Clara. I know about the triplets. I know about Richard Thorne. I know... I know I destroyed the only good thing in my life based on a mountain of lies."
Clara’s expression remained unreadable. "It took you five years and a dossier to figure out what trust actually means, Jasper?"
"I was blind!" Jasper pleaded, lowering his voice to a fierce whisper. "Richard set us up! He framed you so he could steal your research! I was an idiot, a fool, a monster—call me anything you want, but please, let me be a father to my sons!"
"A father?" Clara gave a soft, bitter laugh that cut deeper than a blade. "Where was that father when I was hospitalized with severe pre-eclampsia at six months, completely broke because your lawyers froze my personal bank accounts? Where was that father when I spent seventy-two hours in labor praying my boys would survive?"
Jasper felt a physical pain in his chest. "Clara... please..."
"You gave up your right to be their father the night you looked at me with pure hatred and told me I was nothing to you," Clara said, stepping closer, her eyes blazing with fire. "My sons know Julian as their protector. They don't even know your name."
Before Jasper could respond, the master of ceremonies took the stage microphone. "And now, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our keynote speaker and new owner of Sterling Clean Tech—Clara Whitmore!"

Jasper froze. New owner?
Clara offered him a cold, beautiful smile. "Did you really think I came to Denver just for a conference, Jasper? Read the financial news tomorrow morning. I just bought out your board."
