CHAPTER 2 — The Necklace Worth Three Million Dollars

Nobody noticed the tiny smile on the old woman's face.

But Blessing noticed something else.

Defiance.

She hated it.

"Fine," Blessing sneered.

"If Kaima wants to babysit beggars, let her."

The employees laughed again before returning to their wealthy customers.

Kaima ignored every whisper.

She gently led the elderly woman toward the premium showroom.

The old woman admired each display carefully.

Not quickly.

Not carelessly.

She asked thoughtful questions.

"Who designed this necklace?"

"Where were these diamonds sourced?"

"How long has this collection been available?"

Kaima answered every question patiently.

She spoke with genuine enthusiasm instead of rehearsed sales lines.

For the first time that day...

Someone actually listened to her.

After nearly forty minutes, they stopped before a breathtaking necklace.

White diamonds.

Emerald centerpiece.

Handcrafted platinum.

Price:

Three million dollars.

The old woman stared quietly.

"It reminds me of my wedding."

Kaima smiled.

"It must have been beautiful."

"It was."

The woman's eyes glistened.

"My husband bought me my first necklace when we owned almost nothing."

She gently touched the display glass.

"He promised one day we'd build something our children would be proud of."

Kaima smiled without realizing tears had formed.

"My father made promises like that too."

"He never lived long enough to keep them."

The old woman slowly turned toward Kaima.

"And yet..."

"You still believe people deserve kindness."

Kaima shrugged.

"Kindness is free."

The old woman whispered,

"No."

"It costs everything."

...

Across the showroom...

Blessing had been watching.

She became increasingly irritated.

The security guards were also watching.

Customers had started whispering.

Someone complained that a poor woman was standing near expensive jewelry.

Blessing decided enough was enough.

She marched over.

"Security!"

Two guards approached immediately.

"Escort this woman outside."

Kaima stepped between them.

"She hasn't broken any rules."

Blessing laughed.

"Her existence in this section is breaking the atmosphere."

Several customers nodded.

One wealthy woman added,

"I don't feel comfortable shopping beside people like her."

The guards hesitated.

Neither wanted trouble.

Blessing raised her voice.

"If neither of you removes them..."

"I'll report both of you."

One guard finally reached toward the old woman's arm.

Before he touched her...

Kaima grabbed his wrist.

"No."

The single word echoed across the boutique.

Everyone froze.

Blessing exploded.

"HOW DARE YOU TOUCH MY SECURITY STAFF!"

"I'm protecting a customer."

"She can't pay!"

"You don't know that."

Blessing pointed toward the exit.

"You're fired."

The entire boutique went silent.

Kaima slowly removed her employee name tag.

Placed it on the glass counter.

Then smiled.

"If respecting people costs me this job..."

"I have no regrets."

The old woman looked at Kaima with eyes full of admiration.

"You would lose your livelihood..."

"For someone you don't even know?"

Kaima nodded.

"My mother taught me something."

"The way we treat powerless people reveals who we truly are."

The old woman quietly whispered,

"Your mother raised you well."

Then...

She reached into her old woven handbag.

Everyone expected crumpled bills.

Instead...

She pulled out a small black phone.

Old-fashioned.

Simple.

She dialed one number.

Only six words.

"I'm ready."

"Come to the flagship store."

Then she hung up.

Nothing else.

Blessing burst into laughter.

"Oh, she's calling another beggar."

The staff joined in.

None of them noticed...

May you like

Outside...

Three black armored SUVs had just turned onto the street.
