Chapter 15 - The Breaking Point

That night, in the federal holding facility, the illusion of the "united Montgomery family" shattered into absolute savagery.
Separated by glass partitions in the holding cells, Travis finally snapped. The months of suppressed guilt, terror, and absolute ruin boiled over into uncontrollable rage. He slammed his fists against the thick reinforced glass, screaming at his mother, who sat across from him in her own cell.
"You ruined my life!" Travis roared, his tears smearing against the glass. "I had a wife who loved me! I was going to have two healthy sons! We had a peaceful, quiet life, and you destroyed every single piece of it because you wanted a damned purse!"
"Don't you raise your voice at me, you ungrateful brat!" Deborah shrieked back, her face twisted in venomous rage. "I did everything for you! If you had been a real man and controlled your wife, none of this would have happened! You were weak!"
"I was weak because I listened to you!" Travis screamed back, his hands bloody from pounding on the walls. "You poisoned her! You tried to murder my children! And I stood there and let you take me to the mall while she bled on the floor! I am a monster because of you!"

Richard sat in the corner of his cell, staring blankly at the concrete floor, completely broken as he realized that their house, their savings, their freedom, and their names were officially erased.
Across town, in the quiet safety of my father's estate, I listened to the audio recording of their prison breakdown provided by federal authorities. There was no joy in my heart—only the cold satisfaction of justice served. They had built their lives on cruelty and greed, and now they were tearing each other apart from the inside.
