Chapter 6 - The Woman in the Mirror

Twenty-four hours later, Travis sat trembling in a cold, sterile interrogation room at the precinct. His eyes were bloodshot, his clothes wrinkled, and his spirit entirely broken. He truly believed his wife and newborn children were dead, destroyed by his own selfish negligence.

The heavy steel door clicked open.

Travis jerked his head up, expecting his public defender. Instead, his heart stopped.

Stepping into the room was a woman who looked like a goddess of vengeance. She was wearing an elegant dark velvet dress, her hair styled flawlessly, her posture regal and unyielding. There were no signs of weakness, no tears, no broken spirit.

It was me.

Behind me walked four high-powered attorneys in tailored suits, holding leather briefcases, followed by two armed private security guards.

"S-Sarah?" Travis stammered, scrambling out of his chair, his eyes wide with utter shock and disbelief. "You're... you're alive? The babies... the blood... I thought..."

"You thought you killed us?" I said, my voice dropping like liquid nitrogen into the room. "You almost did, Travis."

"Sarah, oh thank God!" Travis cried, reaching out to hug me, but my security guards instantly stepped forward, blocking him with an immovable wall of muscle. "I'm so sorry! My mother... she persuaded me, I wasn't thinking! Please, where are our boys? Let me see them!"

"They are not your boys," I replied coldly, sitting down across from him while my attorneys lined up behind me. "And you will never see them, touch them, or hear their names for as long as you live."

May you like

"You can't do that! I'm their father!" Travis pleaded, dropping to his hands and knees across the metal table.

"You revoked your right to be a father the second you stepped over my convulsing body to buy Deborah a leather bag," I said, leaning forward. "And there's something else you need to know, Travis. My last name isn't just Montgomery. It's Vance."
