Chapter 4 - THE INHERITANCE OF BLOODThe ashes of the engagement party were swept away by dawn, but the Moretti syndicate had fundamentally transformed.

In the high-security executive boardroom on the top floor of the Moretti Tower in Milan, the air smelled of aged bourbon, dark espresso, and raw, absolute power. Twelve regional crime lords sat around the obsidian glass table, their eyes glued to the man sitting at the head.
Luca Moretti was back. And his return was far more terrifying than his departure.
"The Roman syndicate attempted to buy out our port terminals in Genoa while I was indisposed," Luca said, his voice smooth, rhythmic, and commanding as he spun a heavy gold signet ring between his knuckles. "They assumed the Moretti family was rotting from the inside out."
A senior capo named Emilio cleared his throat nervously. "Boss, the Roman bosses control half the Mediterranean shipping lanes now. Moving against them openly could trigger a full-scale corporate and territorial war across Italy."
Luca looked up, his eyes locking onto Emilio with a gaze so sharp it made the seasoned gangster sweat. "Let them think they control the shipping lanes, Emilio. As of midnight, my tech division locked every digital container code, seized their offshore Swiss bank accounts, and rerouted their entire cocaine and weapon shipments directly into our municipal customs warehouses. They are bankrupt, blind, and completely exposed. You have forty-eight hours to claim their territory before the Italian federal police raid their villas."
A collective murmur of shock and awe rippled through the boardroom. The legendary Moretti ruthlessness had not only returned; it had evolved.
The heavy oak doors of the boardroom suddenly clicked open.
Every capo instinctively reached for their weapons, but stopped when they saw who walked through.
Elena entered, holding little Maya by the hand. Maya wore a bright yellow dress today, her brown curls bouncing happily, completely free of the fear that had haunted her tiny face the night before. Behind them walked Dr. Alistair Vance, carrying a thick leather binder containing all the medical data, antidotes, and formula reversals necessary to fully restore Luca’s muscle tissue and neurological pathways.
Luca stood up immediately, walking around the obsidian table. For the first time in public, the feared mafia king knelt down to eye level with his daughter.
"Did you sleep well, little princess?" Luca asked, his voice softening with an intense, fierce tenderness that no living soul had ever witnessed before.
Maya nodded happily, wrapping her small arms tightly around Luca’s neck. "Mommy said we don't have to run anymore. Is that true, Daddy?"

Luca closed his eyes, hugging his daughter tight, feeling the warm, beating heart of the bloodline he never knew he had. He looked up at Elena, who stood watching them with tears of profound relief pooling in her eyes.
"It's true, Maya," Luca whispered, kissing the top of the little girl's head. "No one will ever hurt you again. No one will ever touch this family again."
