CHAPTER 6 — The Child Who Remembered Everything

The following morning, child psychologist Dr. Elena Morales spoke gently with Leo inside the hospital.

Most rescued children struggled to remember details.

Leo remembered everything.

Especially one sentence.

"The boss said my sister could hear him."

Dr. Morales frowned.

"What do you mean?"

"The boss said..."

"...never leave the little girl alive."

"She hears things."

Everyone in the observation room froze.

Daniel slowly turned toward Inés.

She was sitting by the hospital window, quietly drawing with crayons.

Without looking up...

she suddenly spoke.

"He's outside."

Every adult rushed to the glass.

The parking lot looked completely normal.

Families.

Doctors.

Ambulances.

Nothing unusual.

Then...

Inés pointed toward a man pushing a wheelchair.

"He has the bird."

Detective Ramos zoomed in with his phone.

The man's collar had slipped just enough...

revealing the edge of a black raven tattoo.

The suspect realized he had been noticed.

He abandoned the wheelchair.

Pulled out a handgun.

And sprinted toward the hospital entrance.

Alarms erupted throughout the building.

Doctors grabbed children.

Parents screamed.

Police drew their weapons.

Daniel scooped both Leo and Inés into his arms and ran.

Behind them...

the automatic doors exploded inward as the gunman stepped inside.

Smiling.

"I've come to finish what we started."
