Chapter 1 - THE TRAP IS SET

Facebook Hook Title: 😱 "My Ex-Husband Bragged About His New Twins. He Didn't Know I Already Owned the Hospital—And His Entire Life."The silence in my penthouse wasn't the silence of defeat; it was the quiet before a demolition.

I reached into the bottom drawer of my desk and pulled out a heavy, unmarked black folder. It didn’t have a label like the others. It didn’t need one. This was the file marked DONOR K7.

When Julian met Chloe, he thought he was playing a brilliant, secret game. He thought sneaking around with my childhood best friend, a woman who had dined at my table and worn my borrowed clothes, was the ultimate act of dominance. Julian was a man obsessed with legacy. He came from old Chicago money—the kind that was rapidly evaporating beneath his family’s lavish habits. He needed heirs. More importantly, he needed my money to fund those heirs through NextGen Capital, the investment firm we had built together.

But Julian had a secret. A secret he had hidden from the world, from his overbearing mother, Eleanor Montgomery, and even from himself.

Julian was sterile.

He had known it since a childhood bout of mumps, a medical reality he desperately tried to erase by paying off a private clinic to falsify his records. When he and Chloe "miraculously" conceived twins on their first try, Julian assumed his body had healed, or perhaps that his sheer will had conquered biology. He was too arrogant to ask questions. He was too proud to realize that Chloe Vance, a woman who loved money far more than she loved him, had her own secrets.

I opened the DONOR K7 file.

Inside were the certified medical records of a high-end fertility clinic in Denmark. It detailed a anonymous sperm donation from a donor categorized as K7—a tall, blonde, athletic man with an Ivy League pedigree.

But K7 wasn't anonymous to me. I had bought the clinic's parent company three months ago. And more importantly, I knew exactly who K7 really was.

He was Chloe's personal trainer, a man she had been secretly paying through a shell company registered in Delaware. A shell company funded, ironically, by the allowance Julian gave her.

"Enjoy your victory, Julian," I whispered to the empty room, my voice a cool breeze in the sterile apartment. "It’s going to be the most expensive seven minutes of your life."

I picked up my phone and dialed my lawyer, Arthur Pendelton.

"Is the wire transfer complete?" I asked when he answered.

"Every penny, Clara," Arthur’s voice was crisp, seasoned with decades of corporate warfare. "The moment you signed, the separation of NextGen Capital’s assets was finalized. You are officially entirely liquidated from the firm. You hold seventy percent of the liquid cash. Julian holds the debt, the real estate assets, and the brand name."

"And the hospital?"

May you like

"Mount Sinai’s new wing was funded by your family's foundation, Clara. Technically, you are their primary private trustee. Julian’s VIP suite is currently being billed to his personal account, which, as of ten minutes ago, has been frozen due to the outstanding debt margin call we triggered on his commercial properties."

I smiled. It was a small, sharp movement of my lips. "Let’s go visit the happy family."
