Chapter 5 - CHLOE'S DESPERATION

Facebook Hook Title: ⚡️ "My Best Friend Came Begging on Her Knees. I Handed Her a Mop and Said: 'Start Cleaning'."With Julian completely ruined, Chloe was left with nothing. The personal trainer, Marcus, had vanished the moment he realized there was no money left to inherit, leaving Chloe alone with newborn twins and a mountain of legal debt.
I was leaving my office late one evening when I found her waiting for me in the lobby.
She looked unrecognizable. The effortless waves were gone, replaced by a messy bun. She wore cheap jeans and a faded sweater, holding a double stroller.
"Clara," she sobbed, stepping in front of me as the security guards moved to block her. "Please! Just let me speak to her!"
I waved the guards off. "It’s fine. Give us five minutes."
We walked to the quiet corner of the lobby. The twins were asleep in the stroller, oblivious to the storm their existence had caused.
"Look at them, Clara," Chloe begged, pointing to the babies. "They're innocent. They didn't do anything to you. I’m broke. I’m being evicted. Julian’s lawyers are trying to sue me for fraud, and I don't have enough money for formula."
"You should have thought about that before you targeted my husband, Chloe," I said, my voice flat. "You wanted my life. You wanted my wealth, my status, my husband. You got them. How does it feel?"
"I was stupid!" she screamed softly, tears streaming down her face. "I was jealous of you! You had everything! You were always the smart one, the rich one, the perfect one. I just wanted a piece of it!"
"So you stole from me."
"I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!" Chloe fell to her knees, grasping at the hem of my coat. "Please, Clara. Just give me a job. Anything. I’ll clean your offices. I’ll do your laundry. Just don't let my babies starve."
I looked down at her. Once, she had been the person I trusted most. We had shared secrets, clothes, dreams. Now, she was on her knees, a broken caricature of the woman she used to be.
"I won't let your babies starve, Chloe," I said quietly.
A glint of hope sparked in her eyes. "You won't?"
"No. I’ve already contacted Child Protective Services. Given your current financial instability, your pending fraud charges, and Julian’s erratic behavior, the state will be placing them in a foster home by tomorrow morning. A wealthy, stable family has already been pre-approved to adopt them."

Chloe’s eyes widened in horror. "No... no! You can't take my babies!"
"I’m not taking them, Chloe. The law is. You proved yourself unfit the moment you used them as pawns in a corporate scam," I said, turning away. "You wanted my life, Chloe. But you forgot one thing: I built my life. You just tried to move into it."
