CHAPTER 4 Ethan Chose His Sons Over His Mother—And Chicago Watched a Dynasty Collapse

For several long seconds, nobody breathed.
The only sound in the enormous garden was the fountain behind the altar.
Ethan stared at the three little boys as if the world had stopped turning.
Benjamin tilted his head.
"Mom... why is Daddy crying?"
A single tear rolled down Ethan's face.
Then another.
He slowly knelt in front of the boys.
His expensive tuxedo touched the white stone aisle, but he didn't seem to notice.
His hands trembled.
"How old are you?" he whispered.
"We're seven," Lucas answered proudly.
"We're triplets," Noah added. "Mom says we're impossible to keep clean."
Benjamin smiled shyly.
"We've wanted to meet you forever."
Ethan covered his mouth.
Every feature they carried belonged to him.
The same gray eyes.
The same crooked smile.
The same tiny scar beneath Benjamin's eyebrow that Ethan himself had received as a child after falling from a bicycle.
Impossible.
Absolutely impossible.
He looked at me with shattered eyes.
"Sophia..."
"You were pregnant?"
I nodded.
"With three boys."
His voice cracked.
"For seven years?"
Another nod.
"I tried to tell you."
The words barely left my lips.
"But your mother reached me first."
Every guest turned toward Eleanor.
For the first time in decades, the queen of the Montgomery empire looked uncertain.
She stepped forward smoothly.
"This is emotional manipulation."
Her voice remained calm.
"I warned everyone Sophia was unstable after the divorce."
Several guests nodded uncertainly.
Then Eleanor smiled.
"If these children are truly Ethan's..."
"...why wait seven years?"
Exactly the question everyone was thinking.
I opened my handbag.
"I've been waiting for this."
Inside was a thick black folder.
Every page carefully organized.
Medical records.
Hospital files.
Original ultrasound photographs.
Birth certificates.
DNA samples collected from Ethan's discarded coffee cup six months earlier.
Private investigation reports.
Telephone recordings.
Everything.
I handed the folder to Ethan.
"You deserve the truth."
He flipped through the first pages.
Then stopped.
His face turned ghost white.
One document caught everyone's attention.
PRIVATE INVESTIGATION REPORT
Conclusion: Every photograph of Ethan Montgomery's alleged affair was digitally fabricated.
He looked up slowly.
"What..."
He flipped another page.
Financial records.
Payments.
Shell companies.
Private investigators.
Each payment originated from one account.
Eleanor Montgomery Family Trust.
The silence became terrifying.
Ethan raised his eyes toward his mother.
"You forged the affair?"
She said nothing.
"You made Sophia believe I cheated?"
Still nothing.
"You convinced my wife to divorce me..."
"...while she was carrying my children?"
The guests watched Eleanor carefully.
She finally laughed.
A small laugh.
Dismissive.
"You've always been too sentimental."
Ethan looked as though someone had struck him.
"What?"
She sighed impatiently.
"I protected everything your grandfather built."
She pointed toward the boys.
"Three heirs?"
"Three trust funds?"
"Three future board members?"
"It would've divided the company."
Her words echoed through the garden.
"You needed one clean future."
"Not... this."
She gestured toward the children as though they were accounting errors.
The crowd gasped.
Even Caroline stepped backward.
For the first time, everyone saw Eleanor exactly as she truly was.
Not elegant.
May you like
Not sophisticated.
Simply ruthless.
