Chapter 5 - THE BACKPACK OPENSStephanie looked like she had seen a ghost. Her mouth opened and closed, but no words came out. She lunged forward toward Ashley, screaming like a banshee, "I'll kill you, you little snake!"
Before she could take two steps, the front door swung open with a loud bang. Two uniformed police officers stepped into the foyer, their hands resting on their utility belts, accompanied by a local child protective services investigator.
"Is there a problem here?" the lead officer asked, his voice booming through the house.
"Officer, thank God," my mother cried out, rushing toward them with fake tears streaming down her face. "That woman—that unstable intruder—has brainwashed our son and forged documents to steal our family business! Arrest her!"
Attorney Harrison didn't even blink. He simply turned to the officers and handed them a court-sealed warrant and a secondary file. "Officers, I represent the primary stakeholder of this property and the legal counsel for the corporate board. We are executing an emergency asset freeze and child endangerment investigation based on documented physical abuse and financial conspiracy."
Ashley stepped forward, unzipping Samuel’s canvas backpack. She pulled out a heavy, waterproof folder and handed it directly to the child protective services investigator.

"Inside here," Ashley said clearly, her voice echoing in the quiet room, "you will find medical reports from Urgent Care dated three weeks ago detailing the malnutrition of my son, photographs of the locked utility room where we were forced to sleep, and bank statements proving that my father-in-law systematically drained my personal inheritance account to fund my sister's offshore gambling debts."
The investigator opened the folder, flipped through the pages, and her expression hardened instantly. She turned to the police officer. "We have enough physical evidence and witness testimony to take the grandparents and the sister into custody for criminal neglect, elder manipulation, and financial fraud."
