Chapter 6 - THE TABLES TURN COMPLETELYMy father stumbled backward, knocking his chair over with a crash. All of his bluster, all of his arrogant authority, evaporated in an instant. He looked at me with pleading eyes, his voice cracking.

"Devin... son... we’re family. You can’t do this to us. We raised you. We gave you everything!"
"You gave me conditional affection, emotional torture, and taught me that blood is only valuable if it can be exploited," I replied, looking down at him without an ounce of pity. "When you forced my pregnant wife to eat garbage off the floor while you gorged yourselves in my dining room, you stopped being my family. You became trespassers."
Stephanie began to sob hysterically, clutching at my mother’s arm. "Mom, do something! Call our lawyers! Tell them this isn't real!"
"Our lawyers dropped your retainers twenty minutes ago, Miss Sterling," Attorney Harrison said calmly, checking his watch. "Once the preliminary fraud charges hit the public registry, your corporate credit lines were automatically locked. The Sterling Group is now under emergency receivership managed by Devin and Ashley."

The police officers stepped forward, placing handcuffs first on my father, then on my weeping sister, and finally securing my mother’s wrists as she protested loudly about her social standing.
As they were escorted out the front door in handcuffs, neighbors peered out from their windows across the street, whispering and recording the dramatic spectacle on their phones. The mighty Sterling dynasty had collapsed in less than an hour, destroyed by their own bottomless greed and utter contempt for the people they thought were weak.
