Chapter 4 - The Golden Cage OpensDeep inside the private wing of the capital’s most exclusive medical center, the room was bathed in soft, warm light. There was no sterile hospital smell here; instead, the air carried the faint scent of fresh white lilies and soothing lavender.

Camila opened her eyes slowly.

For a brief, terrifying second, her instincts flared, and she tried to pull her knees to her chest, bracing for a blow.

“Shh, my sweet girl. You’re safe. You are completely safe.”

Camila blinked away the fog of sleep and looked up.

Sitting beside her bed, holding her bruised hand with infinite gentleness, was her father.

Don Mateo Silva looked older than she remembered, his silver hair a bit whiter, the lines around his eyes a bit deeper. But the fierce, protective fire in his gaze remained unchanged.

A choked sob broke from Camila’s throat. She reached out, burying her face against her father’s shoulder, letting out years of suppressed fear, pain, and grief.

“I’m sorry, Dad,” she wept softly. “I was so stubborn. I wanted to prove I could make it on my own... I wanted to prove that love was enough.”

Mateo stroked her hair, his own eyes shining with unshed tears. “You never have to prove anything to anyone, Camila. You are a Silva. You carry the blood of survivors. I told you five years ago when you married that parasite that my door would always be open if you returned. But you chose your path, and I respected your independence.”

He gently pulled back, placing a warm palm over her rounded belly.

“Is... is the baby okay?” Camila asked, her voice cracking with terror.

“The doctors have checked everything twice,” Mateo reassured her, a faint, proud smile touching his lips. “Your little boy is strong. Just like his mother. He fought right alongside you.”

Camila let out a long, shuddering breath of relief. For months, she had lived in constant terror that the stress, the starvation, and the beatings would take her baby away.

“What... what happened to them?” Camila asked quietly.

Mateo’s expression hardened instantly, the warmth vanishing to reveal the ruthless tycoon beneath.

“They are currently learning the true cost of cruelty,” Mateo said flatly. “The house is gone. Their accounts are wiped out. Raúl and Sebastián are sitting in a maximum-security holding cell awaiting trial, and every piece of evidence Nora recorded has been broadcast across the globe. By tomorrow morning, the Cárdenas name will be a curse word in every corner of this country.”

Camila looked down at her hands, still marked with fading bruises. A strange sense of peace washed over her. The fear that had paralyzed her for two long years had finally turned to ash.

“They thought they could break me,” she whispered.

“They didn't know who your father was,” Mateo replied softly, kissing her forehead. “And more importantly, they didn’t know who you are.”

Just then, the door to the VIP suite opened softly. A team of high-end designers, legal experts, and medical specialists stepped into the room, carrying swatches of fabric, architectural blueprints, and legal portfolios.

Valeria Garza stepped forward, offering a polite, respectful bow to Camila.

“Good afternoon, Miss Silva,” Valeria said. “We have prepared the transition documents for your new estate in the hills. Furthermore, the preliminary divorce papers have been drafted. Sebastián Cárdenas has no legal grounds to contest custody or asset division. In fact, he won't even be present for the hearing; our legal team has ensured he will be tried under federal statutes that carry a minimum sentence of twenty years.”

Camila looked at the portfolio, then up at her father.

“I don’t want their money, Dad,” Camila said firmly. “I just want a quiet life. For me and my son.”

Mateo smiled, a warm, genuine smile that reached his eyes. “Everything we have belongs to you, Camila. You can build whatever life you choose. But first... let’s get you home.”
