Chapter 4 - THE BOARDROOM MASSACREThe next morning, the financial media in Mexico exploded.

“SALGADO CONSULTORES COLLAPSES AMID HISTORIC FRAUD ALLEGATIONS: CEO RODRIGO SALGADO ARRESTED.”
Every newspaper bore the picture of Rodrigo being led out of his corporate building in handcuffs, his face covered by his suit jacket.
But Lucía knew that putting Rodrigo behind bars was only half the battle. In Mexico, money can buy open doors in prisons. If Rodrigo’s international allies managed to post his bail, he would be on a private jet to a non-extradition country within hours.
At 9:00 a.m., an emergency board meeting was called at the headquarters of Salgado Consultores.
The room was filled with billionaire investors, high-level corporate attorneys, and powerful men whose faces never appeared in magazines. The atmosphere was thick with tension and hostility.
"Where is the money?!" demanded Don Aurelio, an elderly silver-haired magnate who controlled the largest private equity fund in northern Mexico. "We invested twenty million dollars in Salgado's port expansion project! Now the accounts are frozen!"
The double doors of the boardroom swung open.
Lucía walked in.
She wore an immaculate white tailored pantsuit. Her broken ribs were bound tightly under her silk blouse, and though a faint bruise was still visible on her jaw, her posture was that of a queen taking her throne.
Behind her walked Valeria Montes and three forensic accountants carrying black leather binders.
"Sit down, gentlemen," Lucía said, taking the seat at the head of the long mahogany table—the seat Rodrigo had occupied for six years.
"Who do you think you are?" a younger board member scoffed. "You're just Salgado's wife! The trophy who picked out the office furniture!"
Lucía didn't raise her voice. She simply gestured to Valeria, who distributed the binders to every man at the table.
"Page four, gentlemen," Lucía said calmly. "You'll find that for the last six years, every single contract, every tax filing, and every international transfer executed by Salgado Consultores required the dual digital authorization of the Chief Financial Architect. That wasn't Rodrigo. That was me."
The men rapidly flipped through the pages. Whispers erupted across the room.
"Furthermore," Lucía continued, "Rodrigo didn't steal your twenty million dollars alone. He was assisted by an internal mole on this very board."
The room went dead silent.
Lucía’s eyes drifted slowly across the table, finally landing on Don Aurelio’s chief counsel, Bernardo Gomez.
Bernardo turned pale. "That's absurd! I've represented Don Aurelio for fifteen years!"
"And for fifteen years, you've been running an illegal offshore shell network in Curaçao," Lucía said, sliding a thumb drive across the glass table toward Don Aurelio. "Rodrigo thought he was blackmailing me with my family's debt. But he didn't realize I had already audited Bernardo’s hidden ledgers. Rodrigo was just the middleman. Bernardo was the one preparing to wipe your fund clean next Tuesday, Don Aurelio."
Don Aurelio took the thumb drive, his aged eyes locking onto his legal counsel with lethal intensity.
"Is this true, Bernardo?" Aurelio asked softly.
Bernardo couldn't speak. Sweat dripped down his temple. He slowly stood up, backed away from the table, and ran for the door—only to be grabbed by two heavy-set security guards standing outside.
Lucía stood up from her chair, leaning forward slightly.
"Rodrigo Salgado is going to prison for domestic abuse, attempted murder, and corporate embezzlement," Lucía declared, her voice echoing off the glass walls. "His assets are frozen. But my assets are completely liquid. I am refunding fifty percent of your capital investments today out of my personal holding company. The remaining fifty percent will be restored once I take full operational control of this firm."
Don Aurelio looked at Lucía for a long moment, then slowly began to clap. The rest of the board joined in.
"What about your parents, Mrs. Salgado?" Aurelio asked. "We hear your father was implicated in the federal indictment."

Lucía’s face remained an unreadable mask of ice.
"My father made his choice," Lucía said coldly. "And I am here to make mine."
