Chapter 4 - THE BOARDROOM AMBUSHThe mahogany boardroom of the Alcázar Foundation headquarters on Avenida Fundidora smelled of polished wood, expensive cologne rising from nervous executives, and pure, unadulterated panic.

Beatriz Alcázar sat at the head of the massive table, wearing a crisp white Chanel suit and a diamond brooch that caught the harsh morning light. Her expression was a mask of haughty confidence, though her manicured fingers tapped an aggressive rhythm against the armrest.
"Let's get one thing straight," Beatriz announced, looking around the table at the trembling board members. "The police have the signed documents. The public relations department has already drafted a press release framing the mother as an ungrateful thief who tried to fleece charity funds. By this afternoon, Mariana Serrano will be behind bars, and my granddaughters will be safely back under my custody where they belong."
The heavy oak doors of the boardroom suddenly swung open with a resounding crash.
Everyone jumped.
Adrián Valdés walked in first, his posture regal and imposing. Behind him walked three federal investigators from the Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera (UIF)—Mexico's elite financial crimes unit—followed closely by Elena Ríos and, to the absolute horror of everyone in the room, Mariana Serrano herself.
Mariana was no longer wearing the faded, oil-stained apron of an unpaid servant. She wore a sharp, elegant navy blue pantsuit that Adrián had had custom-delivered overnight, her head held high, her eyes clear and unshakeable.
"You!" Beatriz shrieked, half-rising from her chair, her face contorting with rage. "How dare you step foot in this building? Security! Throw this criminal and her billionaire lapdog out right now!"
"Sit down, Beatriz," Adrián commanded, his voice cutting through the room like a razor blade.
He didn't bother waiting for security. Instead, he pulled out the chair directly opposite Beatriz and sat down, crossing his legs casually.
"Mr. Valdés, this is a private corporate boardroom," stammered Héctor Morales, the foundation's corrupt legal counsel, sweating profusely under his collar. "You have no legal standing to—"
"Actually, Héctor, I have every standing," Elena interrupted, tossing a thick stack of federal audit documents across the polished table. It slid across the wood and stopped directly in front of Beatriz. "As the primary donor funding 85% of this foundation's operational budget, Mr. Valdés has exercised his contractual right to initiate a comprehensive forensic financial audit. And what we found inside your books is nothing short of breathtaking."
Beatriz stared at the first page, her face instantly draining of all color. The haughty mask shattered into a million pieces.
"This... this is an outrage," Beatriz stammered, her voice cracking. "These documents are forged! Lies! All of it!"
"Are they?" Adrián leaned forward, his eyes narrowing into cold slits. "Let’s talk about the twelve wire transfers totaling three million pesos, Beatriz. You claimed Mariana stole them. But our forensic accountants traced the digital IP address from which those transfers were authorized. It didn't come from Mariana’s old smartphone or the servants' quarters."
May you like
Adrián paused, letting the silence stretch out agonizingly before dropping the executioner's axe.
"It came directly from the private terminal inside your own office, authorized using your brother Guillermo’s master administrator credentials. You didn't just frame an innocent mother for theft, Beatriz. You used your own charity as a personal piggy bank to launder money—and you left a digital paper trail straight to the Cayman Islands."
