Chapter 6 - THE VIRAL EXPOSUREBy 4:00 p.m. that same afternoon, the story had exploded across every major news network, social media platform, and tabloid headline in Mexico.

"FALL OF AN EMPRESS: Alcázar Foundation Billionaire Founder Arrested for Multi-Million Dollar Fraud and Framing Impoverished Daughter-in-Law."
Social media was a raging inferno. Hashtags like #JusticeForMariana, #DownWithBeatrizAlcazar, and #BillionaireHero trended at the number one spot nationwide on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook. News vans crowded the gates of the Alcázar mansion, broadcasting live as federal investigators hauled out boxes of forged documents, luxury art pieces purchased with embezzlement funds, and computer hard drives.
The public outcry was swift and merciless. Local businesses severed ties with any company associated with the Alcázar name, and public opinion turned entirely in favor of Mariana and her three little daughters.
Inside Adrián’s penthouse, the television was muted, playing the endless loop of news coverage in the background.
Renata, Emilia, and Lucía were sitting on the plush living room rug, happily coloring in giant sketchbooks that Adrián had bought them. For the first time in years, the apartment echoed with the sound of children giggling and singing.
Mariana stood on the expansive balcony, watching the sunset paint the sky over the majestic peaks of Cerro de la Silla. The warm evening breeze ruffled her hair as she clutched a cup of coffee.
Footsteps approached quietly from behind, followed by the familiar, comforting weight of a heavy wool blazer draping over her shoulders.
"You're going to catch a cold out here," Adrián said gently, standing beside her at the glass railing.
"I'm not cold anymore," Mariana replied, pulling the blazer tighter around herself, breathing in the faint scent of cedar and rain. "For the first time since the accident... I feel completely warm."
Adrián looked down at her, his dark eyes reflecting the golden hues of the setting sun. "What are you going to do now, Mariana? The foundation's assets have been frozen, and the courts have granted you full ownership of your late husband's estate, plus restitution from Beatriz's seized accounts. You're a very wealthy woman."
Mariana turned to face him, a thoughtful smile playing on her lips. "Wealthy? I suppose so. But money was never what I wanted, Adrián. I just wanted safety. I wanted my girls to grow up knowing they are worthy, that being a girl isn't a curse, and that no matter how dark things get, dignity always wins."
"You know," Adrián said, his voice dropping an octave, carrying a sudden, nervous hesitation that was completely uncharacteristic of the billionaire tycoon, "the foundation needs a new director. Someone with empathy, integrity, and a real understanding of what vulnerable mothers and children actually need."

Mariana raised an eyebrow, a playful spark dancing in her eyes. "Are you offering me a job, Mr. Valdés?"
"Not just a job," Adrián replied, stepping a fraction closer, his gaze locked onto hers with unwavering sincerity. "I'm offering a partnership. In the foundation... and, if you'll have me... in everything else."
